Box Score ABILENE – Abilene Christian used a barrage of 3-pointers to hand Tarleton an 86-70 loss in the final LSC meeting at Moody Coliseum between the TexAnns and Wildcats Saturday evening.
This loss snaps an eight-game winning streak for Tarleton against the Wildcats, dating back to 2009.
ACU jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead before the TexAnns scored four unanswered points on a jumper by
Brianna Bledsoe and free throws from
Peyton Adamson to tie the game at 5-5.
The team's traded 5-0 runs to keep the game tied at 10-10. It stayed a tie game through 14-14 before Tarleton took its first lead of the game at 15-14 on a
Kiara Wright free throw.
After an ACU jumper gave the Wildcats a one-point lead, the TexAnns took its largest lead of the game to that point at 19-16 following a layup from
Cheyenne Berry and a jumper in the paint from Wright.
The Wildcats tied the game on their next possession before the TexAnns regained the lead on free throws by Wright. They extended the lead to four on an
Erin Sims layup.
Abilene Christian climbed back and cut the TexAnn lead to one at 27-26 before a 3-ball started a 28-10 ACU run over the rest of the half to send the Wildcats into the break with a 55-36 lead.
It took the TexAnns 16:25 to cut the Wildcat lead back to just 10 at 77-67, but the Wildcats regained the momentum with another 3-pointer to go on to victory. The led by as many as 19 the rest of the way never by less than 13.
Adamson scored 21 points on 6-16 shooting from the floor, 3-7 shooting from beyond the arc and 6-8 shooting from the charity stripe while
Kiara Wright recorded a double-double with 13 points and a career-high 23 rebounds.
The TexAnns will travel to Kingsville this week for a 6 p.m. game against the Javelinas Wednesday.
