Texans complete series win over Buffs with 9-7 victory on Sunday

Box Score CANYON, Texas – The Tarleton Texan baseball team completed its Lone Star Conference series with West Texas A&M on Sunday, downing the Buffs 9-7 in the final game of the four-game set at Wilder Park in Canyon, Texas.

The Texans and Buffs resumed play in the bottom of the fifth inning with one out and Tarleton up 7-4. Seth Hallmark relieved Tanner Ross, who was pitching for the Texans at the time of the game's suspension on Saturday. Hallmark got David Hebert to ground out and Beto Rodriguez to fly out to left field and end the inning.

Nico Moran was hit by a pitch in the top of the sixth inning and he came around to score when Noah Ringenberger doubled to right field. WT's right fielder misplayed the ball and Ringenberger moved to third base and he came home to score on a balk by Buff pitcher Carlos Maese, making it a 9-4 game in favor of the Texans.

The Buffs added a run in the bottom half of the sixth inning on a RBI-single from Parker Wood. Tarleton's Garrett Kelly relieved Hallmark and recorded the final out of the inning with the Texans up 9-5.

WT's Patrick Ramirez drove in a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth inning with a bases loaded single up the middle, making it a 9-7 game in favor of the Texans. Tarleton's Landon Thompson settled down though and got the next two batters to fly out to right field, ending the threat and the game.

Hallmark (2-0) earned the win for the Texans with his 1.1 innings of work on Sunday. WT's Josh Weyker (2-2) was saddled with the loss for the Buffs.

Small hit a double, triple and home run on Saturday before the game was suspended, then came back on Sunday to record a pair of singles and hit for the rare cycle in baseball.

The Texans improved to 18-8-1 overall and are now 7-1 in LSC play. WT dropped to 16-11 overall and 3-5 in conference games.

The Texans will return to action this Thursday, Mar. 28 with a doubleheader against Texas A&M-Kingsville in Kingsville.
