ON DECK
The Tarleton Texan baseball team (18-8-1, 7-1) will conclude its nine-game road swing this week with a trip to Kingsville to face the No. 16-ranked Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas (20-8, 4-4) this Thursday and Friday, Mar. 28-29. The two teams will play a doubleheader each day, with Thursday's game one scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. from Nolan Ryan Field.
ABOUT THE TEXANS
• The Texans lead the Lone Star Conference with a 7-1 mark after going 3-1 in Canyon this past weekend.
• Tarleton won the first game 4-3 over West Texas A&M before falling in Friday's nightcap. With another doubleheader scheduled for Saturday, Tarleton downed the Buffs 6-2 in game one, but game two was postponed in the bottom of the fifth inning due to gusting winds and a dust storm that hindered the players' vision in the game.
• The Texans were up 7-4 when play resumed on Sunday, and eventually won the contest 9-7.

Bryan Conger is now 5-2 overall when playing the Buffs inside Wilder Park.

TEXANS AT THE PLATE

Alvaro Moreno leads the Texans at the dish, hitting .422 on the season with six doubles, four home runs and a team-high 36 runs batted in. Moreno's 18-game hitting streak came to an end in Canyon.

Ryan Small leads the team and the LSC with 12 doubles on the year. He had a pair of doubles this past weekend against the Buffs.
•
Nico Moran's 19-game hitting streak ended this past weekend in Canyon as well.
• Moran leads the team with 10 stolen bases on the season.
• Tarleton is hitting .319 as a team, which ranks third in the league. They lead the conference with 12 home runs and are tied in the LSC with 14 triples.
TEXANS ON THE MOUND
•
Miguel Ramirez picked up his fourth win of the season this past weekend, giving up just two run on six hits, while striking out five batters. He is now 4-0 on the year.
•
Britt Robertshaw went 0-1 over the weekend, but he did pick up his first save of the season. He struck out six batters he faced in 5.0 innings of work in his three appearances.
• Tarleton has a combined 3.49 earned run average, which is third in the LSC. The Texans have given up a league-low 96 runs though this season.
• The Texans are tied atop the LSC with the Javelinas with eight saves this year.
ABOUT THE JAVELINAS
• Texas A&M-Kingsville head coach Jason Gonzales is in his fifth season with the Javelinas and brings in an overall record of 123-110.
• The Javelinas are coming off a 1-3 weekend at home against Abilene Christian. The Wildcats took the first three games of the series before TAMUK salvaged the final game with a 4-3 victory.
• TAMUK's three-consecutive losses to open the ACU series was a season-long losing streak for the Javelinas.
•TAMUK ranks seventh in the league hitting .300 as a team, but rank first in the LSC with a combined 3.15 earned run average.
• Chris Ballou leads the team in hitting (.407), while Taylor Taska leads the squad with four home runs and ni–ne doubles. Matt Perez leads the team with three triples on the season.
• Taska leads the Javelinas on the mound with a 0.46 ERA, which ranks second in the LSC. He is 4-0 and had given up just one earned run in 19.2 innings of work.
• Dallas Ponder is a perfect 6-0 heading into the weekend. He leads the team with 40 strikeouts in 42.1 innings of duty this season. Zach Pettiford (3-2) leads the team starters with a 1.67 ERA.
SERIES NOTES
• The series is tied 44-44 between the Texans and the Javelinas, but Tarleton won the last contest between the two teams - a 4-2 decision in the first round of the LSC Tournament in San Angelo last season.
• TAMUK swept the regular-season series from the Texans in Stephenville last season, but Tarleton swept the 2011 series from the Javelinas in Kingsville.

SMALL TABBED LSC POW
•
Ryan Small was named the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week after leading the Texans this weekend, hitting .500 at the plate and helping guide Tarleton to a 3-1 LSC series win over West Texas A&M in Canyon. The senior second baseman went 5-for-5 and hit for the cycle in what became a two-day series finale due to strong winds in the Panhandle.
• Small hit a double, triple and home run on Saturday before the game was suspended, then came back on Sunday to record a pair of singles. For the week, Small hit .444 with a pair of doubles, the triple and home run, stole three bases, scored three runs and had six runs batted in. He led the team with 15 total bases and an .833 slugging percentage.
• Small becomes the second Texan to earn LSC Hitter of the Week honors this season.
Alvaro Moreno won the award back on March 5.
EVERY WHICH WAY HE CAN
•
Ryan Small needed two days to do it, but he accomplished one of the rare feats in baseball hitting for the cycle in the final game against West Texas A&M last weekend.
• Small went 5-5 in the game that spanned over two days due to high winds in the Panhandle. He hit a ground-rule double in the second inning on Saturday and then had an RBI-triple in the top of the third inning. Small hit a two-run home run in the Tarleton fifth inning before the game was suspended due to high winds and dust storms in the area.
• Small opened Sunday's game wiht a single through the left side of the infield to give him one of baseball's greatest accomplishment's. He later singled in the eighth inning to give him a perfect 5-for-5 on the day(s) at the plate.
TOUCH 'EM ALL
• The Texans are tied atop the league in home runs having hit 12 dingers this season. TAMUK heads into this weekend's match-up with the Texans having hit 12 home runs as well.
•
Alvaro Moreno leads the team four home runs this season. He is followed by
Colten Boothe's three long balls on the year.
• Tarleton hit eight home runs during its LSC-opening series against ENMU a few weeks ago.
BACK IN THE POLLS
• The Texans moved into Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's Top-30 poll this week, debuting at No. 29 following its 3-1 weekend in Canyon.
• Tarleton had been receiving votes for the two previous weeks and finally cracked the top-30 for the first time this season.
• This marks the third-consecutive season that the Texans have earned a top-30 nod in the College Baseball News Division II poll.
UP NEXT
• The Texans return back to Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex for the first time since Mar. 17 as the team will host Incarnate Word in a four-game series, which is set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 5-7.
• The Texans and Cardinals will play single games on Friday (3 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.), between a doubleheader set for Saturday (1 p.m.)
• The Tarleton Athletic Department will host a hot dog cookout for all fans attending the games on Saturday.
