#29 Texans drop pair of games at #16 Texas A&M-Kingsville

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 KINGSVILLE, Texas – The No. 29-ranked Tarleton Texan baseball team dropped its first two games of a four-game set against No. 16-ranked Texas A&M-Kingsville, falling 4-0 and 6-1 in Thursday's doubleheader at Nolan Ryan Field in Kingsville.
 
The Texans (18-10-1, 7-3 LSC) had just four hits in game one, while the Javelinas (22-8, 6-4 LSC) tallied 10 hits and came around to score four times in the victory.
 
TAMUK scored a run in the fourth inning to take a 1-0 lead and then followed with a three-spot in the fifth inning to lead 4-0.
 
Tarleton left three runners on base in game one and TAMUK starter Dylan Ponder (7-0) struck out four Texan hitters to pick up the win for the Javelinas. He worked all seven innings of game one and picked up his seventh win of the season.
 
Miguel Ramirez (4-1) was saddled with his first loss of the season, giving up all four runs in a complete-game defeat. He struck out four Javelina batters in his 6.0 innings of work.
 
The Texans managed just one run in the top of the eighth inning of game two, but TAMUK's 6-0 lead before that was enough to give them the win.
 
The Javelinas scored a run in the bottom of the second inning and then came around to score a pair of runs in the third inning push its lead to 3-0. Another three runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning gave TAMUK a commanding 6-0 lead and Tarleton was unable to rally back.
 
Taylor Taska (5-0) did not allow a run in his 6.0 innings of work and remained without a loss on the season. He came into the game second in the league in strike outs, but managed to just record a pair of K's in Thursday's game.
 
Matt Buckmaster (4-2) snapped his four-game winning streak on the mound as he gave up all six runs in 5.2 innings of work. He walked one and struck out six in the game.
 
The Texans tallied nine hits in game two as Noah Ringenberger, Alvaro Moreno and Colten Boothe each recorded two hits apiece on the evening. Ryan Small drove in Tarleton's lone run on the night with his RBI-single in the eighth inning.
 
The Texans and Javelinas will be back in action on Friday to conclude the four-game series. First pitch of game one's doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. in Kingsville.
