Texans take 2-1 series lead with Saturday's split against Rams

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAN ANGELO, Texas – The #18 Tarleton Texans split Saturday's doubleheader with Angelo State on Saturday, falling 1-0 in game one before picking up a 4-2 win in game two at Foster Field in San Angelo.

The Texans (25-12-1, 14-5 LSC) remained two games ahead of Abilene Christian in the Lone Star Conference standings after Saturday's split as the Wildcats won both games against Cameron.

In what turned out to become a great pitching duel on Saturday, Pete Perez (ND) gave up just three hits in his 6.0 innings of work in game one and ASU's Jake Feckley allowed just one hit in his complete game.

The Rams' Reggie Rodriguez had a walk off single in ASU's seventh inning of game one, when his single to right field drove in Adam LaCombe. Landon Thompson (0-1) relieved Perez in the seventh inning and was saddled with the loss.

Feckley walked two batters and struck out five in his one-hitter.

The Texans scored a pair of runs in the third inning of game two before ASU came back to tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Tarleton came right back though to score another two runs in the top of the fourth inning when Matt Olive singled home Ryan Small and Noah Ringenberger later scored on an error by the catcher.

Miguel Ramirez (6-1) shutdown the Rams over the next three innings and picked up his sixth win of the season. His victory gave Tarleton a 2-1 lead in the series heading into Sunday's finale. Ramirez allowed seven hits in his 7.0 innings, walking just one and fanning a season-high nine batters.

The Texans and Rams will play the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.
