STEPHENVILLE - Coming off a four-set victory in their home opener Tuesday, the Tarleton TexAnns are back on the road for their second tournament in as many weekends - this time in Colorado.
Tarleton is set to compete in a two-day, four-game venue at the Courtyard and Residence Inn by Marriott Oredigger Volleyball Classic at Lockridge Arena on the campus of the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo.
Of the four contests, Tarleton will play two nationally ranked opponents and two in-region foes. The MIAA's Washburn enters the weekend as the No. 6 team in the nation while South Central Region rival, Colorado Mines, is No. 19 in the nation. Also on tap is the RMAC's Fort Lewis and the GNAC's Western Oregon.

LAST TIME OUT
Tarleton hosted Texas Wesleyan in its home opener and struggled out of the gate, falling in the first set to the Lady Rams. However, the TexAnns responded behind season-high performances from Stacie Murrah and Meg Umbel who each recorded 13 kills to lead the TexAnns to three straight set victories and the match win.
SERIES HISTORIES
Of the four teams the TexAnns will see this weekend, Tarleton is a combined 1-6 all-time against Colorado Mines, Fort Lewis and Washburn with five of the losses coming via the sweep. This will be the first-ever meeting between Tarleton and Western Oregon.
WHITE HOT START
Tarleton newcomer Kaitlyn White has certainly made her presence known over the first five contests. Despite struggling in her last outing, the junior from Lindale currently leads the team in kills (58) and points (63.5), is tied for first on the team in double-doubles (3) and is second on the team in digs (66). She also had a career-high 21 kills in her first game, which is the highest number of kills for a TexAnn newcomer in her debut under head coach Mary Schindler. White was also named to the all-tournament team for the Angelo State Invitational.
BARKER AIMING FOR ELITE STATUS
Danielle Barker continues in her pursuit to become Tarleton's all-time leading setter. The junior from Amarillo tallied 32 assists Tuesday night to bring her to 2,299 for her career. She is now 15 assists shy of passing Christina Ortiz for second place all-time. Barker's former teammate Jessie Hartman is the school's current leader and the only player in Tarleton history with over 3,000 assists (3,266).
KLEIN PASSES KEY FOR THIRD ALL-TIME IN DIGS
With her first 20-dig performance of the season, Emily Klein continues to climb up the Tarleton all-time record list. She enters this weekend with 84 digs on the season to bring her career total to 1,136 - giving her sole possession of third place after passing Carie Key. She is now 328 digs away from passing Sharon Lister for second place on the all-time list. Klein's former teammate and coach, Shea McBrearty is Tarleton's all-time digs leader with 1,847.
TARLETON IN COLORADO TOURNAMENTS
Since joining the NCAA in 1994, Tarleton has competed in three Colorado tournaments. In 1996 was swept in the Spalding Classic in Denver, Colo. and returned to the mountains in 1998 for the UC-Colorado Springs Tournament where they went 1-3 with the only win coming against the tournament host Cougars. Last year, head coach Mary Schindler took her first tournament trip to Colorado for the Oredigger Classic and went 2-2 with wins over St. Joseph's and nationally-ranked Wayne State. All-time in Colorado tournaments, the TexAnns are 3-9.
UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
Tarleton will return home for a three-game home stand, including its conference opener against Cameron next Friday night at 6 p.m. The TexAnns host Cameron Friday, Midwestern State Saturday at 2 p.m. and then take a quick LSC break for one-match against St. Mary's Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.
