Box Score STEPHENVILLE – No. 19 Tarleton dominated every facet of the game from the opening tip en route to a dominating 114-39 victory over Texas College in the first game of 2014 Thursday night.
With this 114-point effort, Tarleton now has 838 through the first games of the season making this the highest scoring team through the opening 10 games in school history. The 1983-84 team previously held the record with 812 through the first 10 games.
The win also pushed Tarleton's current winning streak to six straight games.
The contest started in a 4-4 tie over the first minute, but a Kathy Thomas 3-ball off a pass from
Kiara Wright to start a 13-0 Tarleton run over the next 3:29 to take a commanding 17-4 lead. After the Steers managed a basket to make it 17-6, Tarleton answered again with seven unanswered to extend the lead back to 24-6.
Tarleton continued to pile on the lead, going up by as many as 26 with 5:52 left in the opening half. That lead ballooned to 40 by the end of the half, highlighted by a buzzer-beating free throw jumper by Wright to take a 61-21 lead into the break.
Over the first half, Tarleton outscored the Steers 34-4 in the paint and 16-4 off turnovers.
In the second half, the TexAnns kept their foot on the gas pedal with a 53-11 second half effort highlighted by a career-high 11 points from
Courtney Randle – all of which came in the final 17 minutes.
For the game, every active TexAnn scored a point with Wright leading the way with 23 points in just 20 minutes with
Brianna Bledsoe adding 17 points in 21 minutes. Thomas added 10 points as the third starter with double figures.
Ikpeaku Iwobi recorded her second career double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds off the bench while Randle (11) and
Karli Moore (10) also had double figures off the bench. The TexAnn bench outscored the Steer bench 52-12.
