The Texans improved to 16-0 overall and 5-0 in conference play while the Buffs fell to 8-8 overall and 1-4 in league games.

Tarleton jumped out to an early 8-0 lead behind a pair of three-pointers from De'Andre  Upchurch and a lay-up from Davene Carter, then later made it a 13-2 game with a trey from Coleman Furst.

The Texans would lead by as many as 17 points, up 25-8 at the 12:35 mark, but WT went on a 13-3 run to close the gap to just seven points as the home team found themselves behind 28-21 with just over 10 minutes left to play in the half.

The two squads would trade buckets over the course of the final 10 minutes and the Texans would take just a 43-29 lead into the break.

The Texans did manage to score nine points off WT's six turnovers in the first half and out-rebound the home squad 17-13 over the course of the first 20 minutes.

Chuck Guy scored Tarleton's first 10 points of the second half to push Tarleton's lead to 51-41, but WT's Tez Dumars stopped the 10-2 opening-half-run with a counter three-pointer at the other end.

Emmanuel Andrews drained a shot from downtown that propelled the Texans to go on a 9-3 run and extend the lead to 60-47, but the Buffs came right back with a 6-0 run to pull back within seven points, down 60-53 with 11:13 left to play in the game.

Fresh out of a media timeout, the Texans scored the game's next 10 points to make it a 69-53 game and then later registered a 9-2 run to make it a 78-57 game.

Guy paced the Texan offense with a game-high 17 points and Upchurch poured in 14 points as well. Carter was the final Texan in double-figures with 12 points, but both Andrews and Michael Hardge scored nine points each off the bench.

The Texans out-rebounded the Buffs 39-25, scored 25 points off 13 WT turnovers and poured in 21 second-chance points.

The Texans shot 52.5 percent from the field and after WT cooled off from its first half pace, the Buffs finished the game shooting 48.1 percent from the floor.

WT was led by Antjuan Bell and Keon Pledger's 11 points, while Dumars added 10 points for the home squad.
