Tarleton pushed its winning streak to six in a row Thursday night with its highest scoring game of the season with a 114-39 victory over Texas College to keep the NAIA Steers winless on the season. Led by
Kiara Wright's 23 points, Tarleton had six players in double figures including
Courtney Randle's career-high 11 points in the final 17 minutes of the game.
SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's meeting marks the 36th time the TexAnns and Pioneers have squared off since the inaugural meeting in 1983. The TexAnns are 16-2 against TWU in Stephenville and have won 20 of the last 24 meetings since 1999 and have not lost consecutive games to the Pioneers since 1997 and 1998.
GOING FOR WIN NO. 200
Ronnie Hearne goes for win No. 200 in his 11-year Tarleton career Saturday night against Texas Woman's. Since coming to Tarleton in 2003, Hearne has amassed a record of 199-99. Saturday's game against Texas Woman's also marks the two-year anniversary of his 1000th all-time coaching (at all levels) victory which happened on Jan. 4, 2012 at Eastern New Mexico.
TARLETON IN LSC OPENERS
Since joining the NCAA in 1994, Tarleton is 10-9 in Lone Star Conference openers and 1-3 when opening LSC action against Texas Woman's. Under the direction of Ronnie Hearne, the TexAnns are 7-3 in LSC openers, including four straight league-opening wins. Hearne's TexAnns are 1-0 when opening against TWU with that win coming last season - 72-60 in Denton.
STREAKING AT SIX
In addition to matching their best start ever under Ronnie Hearne, Tarleton won its sixth straight game Thursday night. This marks the fifth consecutive season in which Tarleton has won at least six games in a row and the eighth different time Tarleton has had a six-game winning streak under Hearne. The longest streak under Hearne is 15 in a row in the 2011-12 season and the school record for a win streak is 16 set from Jan. 12-Feb. 25, 1991.
BATTLE OF THE BOARDS
This matchup pairs two of the LSC's top defensive rebounding teams - Tarleton and Texas Woman's. The TexAnns are currently the top defensive rebounding team in the conference with 30.8 defensive boards per contest while Texas Woman's is third with 28.0 defensive boards per contest. Tarleton's
Kiara Wright leads the LSC in rebounding with 11.6 rpg and
Shanae Lowrance is No. 17 in the LSC with 5.4 per game. TWU doesn't have a player in top 20 individually, but boasts the No. 23-26 rebounders. Tarleton enters Saturday's affair with an 8-1 record in games in which they outrebound their opponents. They have only been outrebounded once this season - the 74-73 overtime win over St. Mary's in the season opener.
