Men bring home second straight win

SAN ANTONIO - For the second meet in a row, Tarleton men's cross country team returns to Stephenville with a first place finish while the women finish third.

In back-to-back meets, Dylan Willett has a top-three finish and set a new personal record in the 8-kilomoter race of 24:49.1. The junior from San Antonio finished the race running at a pace of 4:59.6 per mile among a field of 171 athletes.

"The guys ran well," said head cross country coach Pat Ponder. "Every single guy who ran today set a new PR."

After not competing in the first meet of the season Thorne Pettigrew now has two top-20 finishes after finishing 18th place in 25:39.0.

Running in the middle of the pack for Tarleton were Robert Pereira in 34th (26:12.4), Andrew Clark in 44th (26:34.9), and Mason Wrobel in 45th (26:35.2).

Freshman Kade Cowan in 86th and senior Stefan Campos in 99th wrapped up the meet for the men finishing in 27:58.9 and 28:40.0, respectively.

Led by Tylo Farrar, in a strong downpour of rain which started approximately a mile into the race, the women's team ran their way to a third straight top-three finish.

Farrar, who has led the women in each of the two previous meets with fifth and third place finishes, continued to lead the TexAnns with an eighth-place finish in San Antonio on Saturday.

Farrar, a junior transfer from Midwestern State, crossed the line in 23:28.5 less than a minute behind Diana Garcia of Abilene Christian who won the race in 22:54.2.

Following Farrar were Pamela Marquez in 30th (24:35.0), Lauren Finley in 32nd  (24:47.8), Haley Dennard in 49th (25:34.0), Makinsey Beesley in 88th (27:22.8) and Ashley Dush in 93rd (27:36.2).

"Overall it was a good day and I'm proud of how the men and women competed today," said Ponder. "We'll use this as a builder and get ready for the next meet."

The Tarleton State Cross Country teams will travel to San Angelo as they compete in the ASU Blue & Gold Classic on October 28th.
