THE GAME
Tarleton State and McMurry are set to square off for the first meeting between the Texans and Warhawks since 1990, making Saturday's game the first meeting of these teams as members of the NCAA. Kick off is set for 2 p.m. at Wilford Moore Stadium in Abilene.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Tarleton pushed its winning streak to two last weekend in another record-setting performance when the Texans won 59-42 over Eastern New Mexico in, what could potentially be, the final game Tarleton plays in Black Water Draw.
Â
TARLETON vs McMURRY
This is the 39th all-time meeting between Tarleton State and McMurry, making it the most games the Texans have played against any one opponent. Tarleton owns the all-time record 25-13 dating back to 1961, including an 11-13 mark all-time in Abilene.
Â
INSIDE THE SERIES
This is the first meeting between the Texans and Warhawks since 1990. When the teams last met, Tarleton State was on a 13-game winning streak against McMurry.
Â
MOST MEETINGS vs ANY OPPONENT
The 39 all-time meetings between the two schools make this the most experienced rivalry in Tarleton's history as a senior college (since 1961). Tarleton has played at least 30 games against only three other teams: Sul Ross (35), Abilene Christian (35) and Angelo State (30).
Â
TEXANS IN THE LSC
The Texans are 101-136 (.420) all-time against opponents in the LSC. Tarleton had won six straight LSC games dating back to last season before a 22-20 loss to A&M-Commerce on Oct. 26. The Texans finished the 2013 season at 5-1 in LSC play en route to the school's third LSC title. McMurry is an affiliate member of the Lone Star Conference in football only, making this a league contest.
Â
TARLETON'S SCORING STREAK
The Texans have now scored a touchdown in 43 straight games dating back to the 2010 season. The last time a Tarleton team was held without a TD came in a 65-3 loss to Abilene Christian back on Sept. 25, 2010. Tarleton has scored at least a field goal or touchdown in 51 straight games heading into Saturday's game. The Texans have not been shutout since Nov. 8, 2008.
Â
WHAT A CATCH
With five receptions against Eastern New Mexico, Rhodes broke a 44-year old school record. Tarleton Hall of Fame member Harlan Wunsch, who played from 1967-69, held the record for the previous four decades with 188 career receptions.
Â
RECORD TRACKER: CLIFTON RHODES III
Clifton Rhodes III is on pace to become one of the best wide receivers to ever don the purple and white. Entering Saturday's game, here is where he stands on his way to Tarleton history:
• With 2,533 yards, Rhodes is 81 yards away from passing Devin Guinn as the school's all-time receiving leader. Guinn, who played from 2006-09, is the current record holder with 2,613.
• With nine career 100-yard receiving games under his belt, Rhodes is two 100-yard receiving games away from passing Devin Guinn (10) for the all-time lead.
Â
RECORD TRACKER: BLAKE BARNES
In just his junior season,
Blake Barnes is making a case to go down alongside Tarleton Hall of Famer J.W. Boren as two of the top kickers in Tarleton history.
• FG Att: Barnes now has attempted 51 field goals in his career to move into second-place all-time by passing Paul Williams (2004-06) with 47. He is 33 attempts shy of passing Boren (83) for the all-time lead.
• FG Made: Entering Saturday's game with 38 career field goals, he is three makes away from passing Williams for second all-time (40). Barnes is 22 field goals away from becoming the all-time leader and passing Boren (59).
• PAT Att: He is also in second-place all-time in PATs attempted (108), after passing Paul Williams (94) during his run of 11-11 PATs against Kingsville on Oct. 11. He is 41 extra points away from the all-time record, held by Boren (148)
• PAT Made: In PATs made, Barnes is second all-time with 107 and is 30 extra points away from passing Boren (136) as the all-time leader.
Â
THE HALF-CENTURY MARK
Tarleton State has scored 50 points in back-to-back games for the first time since Aug. 29 (62-0) and Sept. 5, 2002 (53-7). They have only scored 50 in three straight games one time since becoming an NCAA institution in 1994 (Oct. 6-20, 2001). Prior to the run of three straight in 2001, Tarleton had never scored 50 points three times in any single season. The Texans have scored 50 points in a game 15 times since the start of the 2001 season, including this season.
Â
FOWLER IN THE RANKS OF TSU COACHES
Cary Fowler is tied with the school's first head coach A.B. Hayes for seventh on the all-time win list at Tarleton with 25 career wins.
Â

Tarleton scored a touchdown on 13 straight possessions over the last nine possessions of the Kingsville game and the first four drives of the Eastern New Mexico game. Over the last two games, Tarleton has scored a touchdown on 19 of 29 drives for a 66-percent touchdown conversion rate.
