SAN ANGELO - For the first time in school history, the Texan cross country team has won three consecutive meets.
Â
The men's team returns to Stephenville with a first place finish while the women finished second behind Angelo State.
Â
"Anytime you can go to Angelo and get a win it speaks volumes for your program. Both teams went out and executed the race plan and I'm very proud of how they competed," said head coach
Pat PonderÂ
The men who scored 20 points as a team, were five points from a perfect score of 15, which has only happened once under Coach Ponder.
Â
Dylan Willett has a top-three finish at every meet he has competed in this season and the ASU Blue & Gold Classic was no different as the junior picked up his second individual win of the season.
Â
Willett, who earned LSC runner of the week accolades after his performance at the Incarnate Word Cross Country Invitational, picked up right where he left off running his way to win on Tuesday finishing the 8K in 26:17.37.
Â
"Dylan's shoe actually came off 200 meters into the race. By the time he put it back on he was 75 meters behind and had to play catch up until he took the lead after about a mile in to the race" said Ponder.
Â
The men, who had four runners finish in the top-10, won the meet with a total time (2:13:58.42) that was more than four minutes faster than second place Texas A&M-Kingsville's 2:18:12.38.
Â
The pack of Texan runners following Willett were
Dallas Rushing in second,
Thorne Pettigrew in third, and
Peyton Heinig in fourth running 26:32.86, 26:41.14 and 26:47.81, respectively.
Â
"I thought we did a good job of running in a pack," added Ponder.
Â
Rounding out the field for Tarleton were
Andrew Clark in 11
th place (27:39.24),
Kade Cowan in 16
th (28:23.74) and
Stefan Campos in 22
nd (30:16.97).
Â
For the TexAnns it was once again
Tylo Farrar setting the pace as her 23:01.53, a new personal record, took the individual title on the women's side.
Â
Farrar helped lead her team to a fourth consecutive top-three finish as the women claimed second place.
Â
Pamela Marquez finished behind Farrar in fourth place (23:43.40) and just ahead of teammate
Lauren Finley who took fifth in 24:15.48.
Â
Haley Dennard (25:03.69),
Makinsey Beesley (25:59.23) and
Ashley Dush (27:54.85) finished the meet for the TexAnns in ninth, 13
th and 16
th place, respectively.
Â
"It was a great tune-up meet for the LSC championships in a few weeks," said Ponder. "It was a good day for both teams."
Â
The Tarleton State Cross Country teams will travel to Wichita Falls as they compete in the Lone Star Conference championships on November 8th.
