TexAnns fall in Florida, will play Concord Tuesday afternoon

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Tarleton State's four-game winning streak came to an end on the first day of the Rollins Invitational Tournament Monday with a 57-51 loss to the University of Indianapolis.

In the first meeting between the TexAnns and Greyhounds, Tarleton shot just 38 percent from the floor and 31 percent from beyond the arc while being held to just eight free throw attempts (6-8) compared to 28 attempts from the charity stripe (16-28) for UIndy. In the second half, Tarleton State went to the line twice (1-2) while UIndy went 15 times (8-15).

After UIndy opened up the scoring, Tarleton's Bailey Wipff hit a jumper to start a quick 9-5 Tarleton push that was capped off with Karli Moore jumper to put the TexAnns on top 9-7 just 5:34 into the game.

The Greyhounds struck right back, however, by scoring 11 unanswered points over the next 4:26 to lead 18-9.

After the teams traded 3-pointers to keep the game at nine, Morgan Ashmore hit a 3-ball to start an 11-1 Tarleton run – capped off with a layup from Breanna Fuller – to give the TexAnns the lead back at 23-22 with 3:53 left in the half.

Over the rest of the half, however, Tarleton could muster only a layup and three free throws as the Greyhounds added 10 points to go into the half with a 32-28 lead.

Tarleton came out on fire in the new half, beginning with a jumper from Bailey Wipff and then five straight points from Meagan O'Dell to take a 35-32 lead just 1:41 into the fresh half. That would be the final lead of the game for the TexAnns as UIndy began an 18-4 run over the next 13 minutes to lead 50-39 with 8:11 left.

The TexAnns cut the deficit to as little as five on two different occasions in the final 1:07 but could get no closer as the Greyhounds went on to the win.

Tarleton was led in scoring by its senior tandem of Kathy Thomas and Karli Moore with 10 points each. Moore also tied her career high with nine rebounds to lead the TexAnns. Breanna Fuller added eight while Raven McGrath scored six.

Ashmore, Wipff and O'Dell added five points each while Ikpeaku Iwobi rounded out the Tarleton scorers with two.

Tarleton State will play Concord in the consolation game of the Rollins Invitational Tuesday at 3 p.m. CST.
