LUBBOCK – In the final regular season indoor track and field meet of the season, the Tarleton State Texans and TexAnns combined for 13 personal bests, two wins and five NCAA provisional qualifying marks Friday afternoon at The Bubble.
Distance & Relays
The Tarleton distance and relay runners highlighted the day as Tarleton by earning all five NCAA provisional marks in the distance and relay events – including a pair of victories in their respective events from
Chase Rathke and
Lindsey Hinton.
On the women's side, Hinton dominated the Mile Run by winning the event with a time of 5:05.39 en route to the NCAA mark. Her teammate,
Aly Coughlin, also hit the mark by coming in second place with a time of 5:05.79.
Coughlin earned her second provisional mark of the year in the 3000-meter run when she claimed a second-place finish with a time of 10:10.07.
On the men's side, Rathke highlighted the afternoon in the 800m run by winning the event and earning an NCAA provisional mark. His time was just 02.91 seconds shy of tying the Athletic Training Center record in the event and this marks the second straight season for Rathke to qualify in the 800m.
The Texan 4x400m relay team of
Clarencio Guerrero, Michael Eschbach,
Cameron Krc and
Gilson Umunnakwe earned the fifth provisional mark of the day by running a 3:16.61 for a third-place finish.
The three athletes earning four marks weren't the only bright spots for Tarleton in the distance and relay events, however. On the women's side, the TexAnns had four more top-10 finishes while the men had two top-10s.
Payton Shoush, in her first race of the school year, finished ninth in the Mile, behind Hinton and Coughlin, with a time of 5:27.28. Hinton finished sixth in the 3000m with a time of 10:33.02 and
Katelin Huckabee was right behind her in seventh with a 3K meter time of 10:35.42.
Tye Doty took home the top-10 on the men's side with a third-place finish in the 3000m run with a time of 8:40.01.
The men and women's 4x400m relay teams had the remaining two top-10s with the men's group of
Randall Kadlacek,
Marquis Thompson,
Aaron Donohue and Rathke finished seventh with a time of 3:22.74 while the girls team of
Jasmine Owens,
Kara Bickham,
Shelby Greenwalt and
Amanda Smith finished ninth in 4:01.16.
Sprints & Hurdles
In the sprints and hurdles, only
Randall Kadlacek for the men and
Shelby Terry for the women earned top-10 finishes for Tarleton. However, three other TexAnns and five other Texans did reach personal bests on the afternoon.
Kadlacek ran the prelims of the 55m Hurdles and finished in sixth with a time of 7.88 to earn a trip to the finals, where he finished fifth in 7.79. Meanwhile, Terry finished ninth in her 55m Hurdles race with a time of 8:48.
The personal bests for the women came from Owens (1:00.45), Bickham (1:01.52) and
Stephanie Kornegay (1:05.91) in the 400m Dash. On the men's side, Krc (49.24), Umunnakwe (49.45), Guerrero (49.64), Thompson (51.23) and Donohue (51.30) set personal bests in the 400m on an indoor track.
Jumps & Throws
In the jumping and throwing events, Tarleton had eight athletes earn top-10 status, including four Texans who earned top-5 marks in their respective events.
Travis Allison and
William Webb starred in the high jump and pole vault events by claiming third-place finishes. Allison jumped 2.01m (6' 7'') while Webb vaulted to a height of 4.65m (15' 3'').
The other top-5 finishers were
Patrick McHale and
Kenny Odunaiya in the high jump and shot put events. McHale lifted to a fifth-place finish with a jump of 1.86m (6' 1.25'') while Odunaiya launched the shot put 14.99m (49' 2'') for a fifth-place finish.
For the women,
Nikki McNorton was the only TexAnn to earn a top-5 finish as the two-time All-American finished fourth in the high jump in her first action of the season. McNorton leaped 1.58m (5' 2.25'').
Tarleton had three others finish in the top 10 as Nic Perez and Odunaiya claimed sixth-place finishes in the shot put and weight throw, respectively, while
Marissa Westbrook finished 10
th in the shot put. Perez launched the shot put 14.60m (47' 10.75''), Odunaiya threw the weight 16.02m (52' 6.75'') and Westbrook threw the shot put 12.42m (40' 9'') for her top-10 finish.
Tarleton was originally scheduled to have a second day in Lubbock tomorrow, but a late change to the schedule had all of the events wrapping up Friday. The next meet on the schedule for Tarleton is the Lone Star Conference Championships, which will take place at the Texas Tech Athletic Training Center on March 1.
