No. 18 Texans Down Patriots for Ninth Conseuctive Home Win

Ethen Lenz worked a three-up, three-down ninth inning for his third save of the season.
Box Score STEPHENVILLE – The No. 18 Tarleton State Texans won its ninth-straight home game with a 5-4 victory over Arlington Baptist Friday evening at Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex in Stephenville.
 
The Texans (8-2) managed to overcome an early 2-0 deficit to the Patriots (3-7) with a pair of home runs, one from Jonathan Schmitz in the second inning and another from Alvaro Moreno in the third inning.
 
Schmitz' blast tied the game 2-2, while Moreno's shot notched the game back up at 3-3.
 
Luke Slentz tripled to center field in the bottom of the fourth inning and later came around to score on a double from Evan Robinson. Robinson would then later score on a sacrifice fly from Kevin Meredith to put the Texans on top 5-3.
 
The Patriots managed to bring a run home in the top of the fifth inning, but starting pitcher Jacob French (W, settled down and did not allow another run over the next three innings before giving way to Ethan Lenz (S, 3). Lenz struck out two the three batters he faced on the way to earning his third save of the season.
 
French gave up seven hits to the Patriots, struck out five and walked just one in his 8.0 full innings of work.
 
Moreno finished the game going 3-for-4 at the plate with a run-batted-in and one run scored. Schmitz had two hits on the evening and two RBI came on his first dinger of the season.
 
The Texans will conclude play with the Patriots tomorrow, closing out the series with a two-game set that will begin at 1 p.m.
