Texan Baseball Preview: Eastern New Mexico

- The Tarleton State baseball team will open-up Lone Stat Conference play this weekend against Eastern New Mexico, with a four-game set to be played at Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex beginning this Friday, Feb. 28 and running through Sunday, Mar. 2.

The Texans (9-3, 0-0) and Greyhounds (10-2, 0-0) will open the series with a single game on Friday, which is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. The two teams with then play a doubleheader on Saturday with a first pitch in game one set for 1 p.m. Tarleton and ENMU will then close out the series on Sunday with a single game at 1 p.m.

Tarleton is coming off a 2-1 series against Arlington Baptist last weekend, while the Greyhounds swept a pair of doubleheaders over Texas-Permian Basin and Southwest last Friday and Saturday. The Texans snapped a 10-game win streak with the loss to the Patriots last Saturday, but have won four consecutive conference games in Stephenville dating back to last season. Overall, Tarleton has won 16 of the past 19 home games dating back to last season.

The Texans are hitting .346 as a team and have a combined 3.69 team earned run average as well. Tarleton is currently second in the conference in hitting and sixth in pitching. Tarleton's .508 slugging percentage leads the conference, as do its 25 doubles on the season. The Texans also rank first in the league with eight home runs and are second with 26 steals on the season.

Luke Slentz leads the team in hitting with a .533 batting average. He has collected a team high 16 hits that have gone for two doubles and two triples. Rustin Thomas and Noel Nevarez lead the team with two home runs each, while Meredith and Slentz are tied for the team lead with their two triples on the year.

Meredith leads all players with 14 runs batted in and he is tied with Evan Robinson for the team lead with 12 runs scored. Thomas and Meredith lead the Texans with four stolen bases on the season.

Ethan Lenz has appeared in six games this season and still has a team-leading 0.00 ERA. Matt Herrick has a 0.00 ERA as well in three appearances for the Texans. Colton Burleson's 2.45 ERA leads all starters, while Jacob French leads the pitching staff with 18 strikeouts on the year.

The Texans swept the Greyhounds in a four-game set in Stephenville last season, to go along with a single-game win over ENMU in Abilene. Tarleton has posted a 15-0 record against ENMU over the past three seasons and has not lost to the Greyhounds since Feb. 27, 2010.
