Texans Take Series from Greyhounds with Saturday Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton State baseball team splits its final two games with Eastern New Mexico on Saturday with a 10-9 loss in game one and an 11-4 win in game two of a doubleheader at Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex in Stephenville.
 
The Texans (12-4, 3-1 LSC) opened the first game with a 5-2 lead, but a four-run sixth and seventh inning put the Greyhounds (11-5, 1-3 LSC) up 10-5 before Tarleton rallied.
 
The rally came short though as the Texans managed to score just four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and ENMU came away with the win in game one.
 
The Texans came back though with an 11-4 win in game two, thanks to a five run second inning. Rustin Thomas hit a grand slam in in the second inning of game two and then added to the lead with a solo home run in the fifth inning ot give the Texans a 6-1 lead.
 
Tarleton added a run in the seventh inning with another run-scoring sacrifice fly form Thomas and then after a two run eighth inning from the Greyhound, Tarleton responded with four insurance runs in the bottom half of the frame.
 
Thomas finished the day going 4-for-7 at the plate with six runs batted in and Kevin Meredith added to the offense with a 4-for-7 effort as well. Andrew Jacobi added a pair of hits and Noel Naveraz collected a pair of hits as well.
 
Kyle Gottardy (W, 1-0) picked up his first win of the season in game two, giving up just one earned urn in eight full innings of work, while striking out six batters in the process.
 
The Texans have now defeated the Greyhounds in 18 of its past 19 contests dating back to 2011 following the 3-1 series win.
 
The Texans will be back in action next weekend with a four-game set against Angelo State in San Angelo beginning next Friday, Mar. 7. The series will be played at Foster Field in San Angelo.
