Texans Drop Doubleheader to Buffs on Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton State Texans dropped a twin bill to the No. 4 West Texas A&M Buffs on Saturday. The two teams will close-out the four-game set on Sunday at Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex.
 
The Texans fall to 15-10 overall and are now 6-7 in league play, while WT pushed its record to 24-4 and 13-2 in Lone Star Conference play.
 
In a game that was originally scheduled for just seven innings, It took the Texans and Buffs 15 innings to get though game one.
 
The Buffs came away with the win in game one, 2-1, in a contest that tallied seven total pitchers, 49 combined at bats and 15 collective runners left on base.
 
The Texans scored its only run in the third inning when Alvaro Moreno plated home Luke Slentz, to give the home squad an early lead. WT countered though with a run in the top of the fourth inning on a run-scoring single from Dylan Dyson that knotted up the contest 1-1.
 
Tarleton starting pitcher Colton Burleson (ND) would go seven full innings, giving up just the one run on five hits and striking out four. WT starter Scott Cone allowed just the one run on six hits and he struck out six hits in his seven complete innings of work.
 
The Texans brought in Ethan Lenz into the game in eighth inning and he gave up just four hits in his four innings of work.
 
Troyal Yosko (L, 0-1) took the loss for the Texans as he gave up the game's last run in the 15th inning – a RBI fielder's choice that scored WT's Nick Chapman on the play. Yosko gave up just two hits in four innings of work in game one.
 
Kyle Olason (W, 4-0) was the pitcher of record for the Buffs as he collected the win after a hitless 14th inning. Paul Lujan (S, 6) worked the 15th inning for the Buffs and managed to earn the save after walking a pair of batters and striking out one.
 
The Texans fell behind 2-0 after one inning in the nightcap before the Buffs added another run in the top of the third inning. WT then drove in four runs in the top of the sixth inning to complete all the scoring.
 
The Texans had just four hits and WT starting pitcher Joshua Weyker (W, 5-2) struck out five Tarleton batters as well on the way to the complete-game win.
 
Robert Baker (L, 3-4) was saddled with the loss in game two, giving up all seven runs, but just three of them earned. He struck out four and walked none in the game.
 
Rustin Thomas had two of Tarleton's four hits, finishing the game 2-for-3 at the dish.
 
Moreno tallied a hit in the second game and finished the day with three hits overall. Garrett Kilgore, who tallied a pair of hits in game one, collected Tarleton's other hit in the nightcap to also finish with three hits on the day.
 
The Texans and Buffs will conclude the four-game series on Sunday with a first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. in Stephenville.
