Kadlacek hits NCAA mark as Texans finish second, TexAnns third at Warhawk Classic

ABILENE –
Randall Kadlacek highlighted day two of the Warhawk Classic by hitting an NCAA provisional mark in the 110m Hurdles as the No. 9 Texans finished second and the No. 25 TexAnns took third at McMurry.
 
Tarleton State combined for 40 top-10 finishes on the final day of the meet, with 26 of the 40 finishing in the top five of their respective events and seven of those 26 winning the event.
 
Sprints and Hurdles
 
The lone mark came in the men's 110m Hurdles as Kadlacek hit his second career outdoor mark and the rest of the Tarleton sprinters and hurdlers combined for 19 top-10 finishes.
 
Kadlacek finished second in the event with a time of 14.66, topping the NCAA provisional mark of 14.69. The sophomore also took third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.26 while his teammates Kyle Johnson (56.51) and Michael Eschbach (58.38) took fifth and 10th, respectively.
 
Johnson also took fifth in the 110m hurdles in 14.96 to round out the Texan hurdlers.
 
On the women's side, Kara Bickham finished in a career-high second place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.64 while Deylinn Garrett (15.26) took fifth in the short hurdles and Stephanie Kornegay (1:10.20) took ninth in the long hurdles to round out the TexAnn hurdlers.
 
All five of the TexAnn sprinters who ran for Tarleton placed in the top 10 of their respective races: Garrett (25.90) and Shelby Greenwalt (26.16) took fourth and ninth in the 200m dash while LaDaria Nelson (58.06), Jasmine Owens (59.17) and Greenwalt (59.95) took fourth, seventh and ninth in the 400m dash.
 
For the men, the 400m dash highlighted the sprint events as Cameron Krc and Gilson Umunnakwe finished 1-2 in the race with times of 48.24 and 48.72, respectively. Marquis Thompson (49.64), Clarencio Guerrero (49.84) and Aaron Donohue (50.20) finished in the top 10 of the 400m in fifth, eighth and 10th, respectively.
 
Brendan Williams rounded out the Texan sprinters to reach the top 10 as he finished seventh in the 100m with a time of 10.83 and sixth in the 200m in 22.27.
 
Distance and Relays
 
In the distance and relay events, Tarleton racked up five of the seven wins on the afternoon.
 
Lindsey Hinton posted her second straight first-place finish in the 1500m run with a time of 4:40.02 to highlight a superb showing for the TexAnns as Aly Coughlin (4:43.41), Katelin Huckabee (4:52.59) and Tylo Farrar (5:07.51) packed in behind her to take fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
 
The other win for the TexAnns came in the Mile Relay when the group of Nelson, Greenwalt, Bickham and Owens finished first with a time of 4:00.21.
 
Lauren Finley rounded out the TexAnn finishers with a fifth-place finish in the 5000m with a time of 20:26.59.
 
On the men's side, Tarleton got a trio of victories including Dylan Willett in the 1500m, Mason Wrobel in the 10,000m and the men's Mile Relay.
 
Willett led a strong core of runners in the men's 1500m as the sophomore finished in 3:57.41, which was just ahead of teammate, Tye Doty, who took third with a time of 4:01.40. Thorne Pettigrew also finished ninth in the event with a time of 4:14.58.
 
Wrobel earned his victory in the 10K with a time of 35:16.35 while teammate Andrew Clark finished second in a time of 35:41.90.
 
The Mile Relay team, which is coming off an NCAA qualifying time last week, took first place but couldn't improve on the NCAA mark with a time of 3:16.41. The secondary mile relay team took fourth in 3:20.77 while the sprint relay team took fifth in 41.90.
 
Rounding out the distance events for the men were the three Texans to finish in the top 10 of the 800m and the two Texans to take a top-10 finish out of the 5000m.
 
Stefan Campos (2:00.81), Brian Cooper (2:01.56) and Robert Pereira (2:05.17) took third, sixth and 10th in the 800m race, respectively, while James Polasek (15:55.89) and Luke Scribner (16:04.46) took second and fourth in the 5K.
 
Jumps and Throws
 
The only jumping events scheduled for Saturday's finale were the men's and women high jump, but Tarleton fared well in that event on both sides as Nikki McNorton highlighted the afternoon with a win in the event.
 
The two-time All-American high jumper cleared 1.60m (5-3) en route to the win while her TexAnn teammate, Katie Sikes, cleared 1.45m (4-9) for seventh place. On the men's side, Travis Allison hit 2.03m (6-8) for a third place finish while Patrick McHale hit 1.95m (6-4) to take fifth.
 
The throwers did not compete Saturday after finishing their events on Friday.
 
Athletes who qualify will take part in the Texas Relays next week beginning on March 26 while the rest of the Tarleton track and field squad will head to Texas State.
