Box Score KINGSVILLE – The Tarleton State Texans dropped its series opener with Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday, falling to the Javelinas 4-3 at Nolan Ryan Field in Kingsville.
The Texans dropped to 16-11 overall with the loss and are now 7-8 in Lone Star Conference play, while the Javelinas moved to 18-11 on the year and 11-6 in league games.
Tarleton's
Noel Nevarez opened the game with a run-scoring double in the first inning to give the Texas an early 1-0 lead, but TAMUK came back with a run in the second inning to tie the game and then tacked on a pair of runs in the third inning to take a two-run advantage.
The Texans managed to bring home a run in the sixth inning when
Kevin Meredith scored on a fielder's choice, but the Javelinas countered with another run in the bottom of the frame to make ia 4-3 game.
Tarleton's
Dalton Weeks led off the eighth inning with a walk and then after moving all the way over to third base on a wild pitch, he would later score on a pass ball to pull the Texans within a run.
The inning was cut short though and TAMUK's Ryan Scott managed to get out of the ninth inning to secure the win for the Javelinas and record his fifth save of the season.
TAMUK's Dallas Ponder moved to 4-1 on the season with the win, while
Troyal Yosko fell to 0-2 with the loss.
Nevarez led the Texans at the plate on Friday, collecting a pair of hits that both went for doubles.
The Texans and Javelinas will play a doubleheader on Saturday, with a first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
