LAST TIME OUT
Tarleton State exploded for one of the best first halves of the season - including starting the game on a 12-0 run - en route to ending Texas A&M-Commerce's season in the opening game of the Lone Star Conference Tournament. The TexAnns led by as many as 31 points in the opening half and ended up getting double-double efforts from
Kiara Wright and
Brianna Bledsoe and double-figure scoring performances from Kathy Thomas and
Shanae Lowrance.
Â
SERIES HISTORY
This is the 38th meeting all-time between the TexAnns and Pioneers with Tarleton holding the all-time series lead 26-11, dating back to the inaugural meeting in 1983. Tarleton won the first two games of the series in the only two games prior to Tarleton's induction into NCAA in 1994-95. After they became NCAA rivals, Texas Woman's went 6-3 against Tarleton from 1995-98. Tarleton turned the tide of the series, however, with a 70-63 win in Stephenville on Jan. 28, 1999. That victory was the first of seven straight Tarleton wins in the series and 21 wins in the last 26 meetings, through this year. TWU has not won back-to-back games in the series since Jan. 25, 1997 and Jan. 2, 1998.
Â
TARLETON IN THE TOURNEY
Tarleton State has improved their overall LSC Conference Tournament record to 7-10 in its 12 trips to the dance over the last 19 years. Tarleton qualified once under former head coach Claude Cummings and have qualified for the tournament in each of Ronnie Hearne's 11 seasons at the helm. Since earning their first tournament win in 2010, Tarleton is 7-3 in tournament games over the last five seasons, including this one.
Â
TARLETON VS TWU IN THE TOURNAMENT
Friday's game is just the second time that Tarleton and Texas Woman's have met beyond the regular season. The only other postseason meeting between the teams was in the opening round of the 2009-10 LSC Championship Tournament when Tarleton got the first NCAA postseason win in school history with a 71-66 win over the Pioneers in Bartlesville, OK.
Â
WRIGHT'S BIG 2-0
For the second consecutive season,
Kiara Wright has amassed 20 double-doubles in a season. Last year, she was second in the nation with 24 and this season, she is third with 20.
Â
GETTING 20
Tarleton has secured its fourth 20-win season in the school's 19-year NCAA tenure. All coming since 2009.
Â
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
The Pioneers are coming off an LSC Quarterfinal match against Texas A&M-Kingsville that they held on to win 68-61 despite committing 22 turnovers. The Pioneers were led in scoring by Rebekah Cluley with 17 points on 5-11 shooting with all five of her field goals coming from downtown. TWU also got double-figure scoring efforts from Barbara Scott-Kolb (12) and Danielle Westerfield (13). After starting the season 8-9, the Pioneers have won eight of their last 10 games dating back to Jan. 29 including a 64-59 win at home against Tarleton on Feb. 3.

UP NEXT FOR THE TEXANNS
