Texans Snap Skid with 5-4 Win over Arlington Baptist on Tuesday

Box Score FORT WORTH – The Tarleton State Texans snapped a four-game losing skid with a 5-4 non-conference win over Arlington Baptist at LaGrave Field in Fort Worth on Tuesday.

The Texans (18-16) and Patriots (17-22) exchanged leads five different times on Tuesday, but Tarleton came through in the top of the seventh inning with three runs an then held Arlington Baptist to just one more run en route to the road win.

Tarleton's Luke Slentz scored on an error in the top of the seventh inning, which gave the Texans the lead for good.

Tarleton then staved off Arlington Baptist, as the Patriots were unable to match the Texans down the stretch.

The Patirots scored one run in the bottom half of the seventh on an RBI-single by Ryan Wagley, but then could not draw even with the Texans.

Following the start from Troyal Yosko, five relief pitchers were sent into the game in order to secure the win for the Texans on Tuesday. Matt Herrick (W, 1-0) recorded just one out in the seventh inning to earn his first win of his career and Ethan Lenz faced 10 batters in relief to earn his team-leading seventh save of the season.

The Patriots jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Tarleton bats finally got going in the top of the third inning as Rustin Thomas singled and later scored and Christopher Patton tied the game up on an Alvaro Moreno RBI-single to right field.

The Patriots would retake the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, 3-2, but Tarleton rallied with its three-run barrage in the next frame and never looked back.

The Texans will return to Lone Star Conference action this Friday and Saturday against Angelo State, with a three-game set to take place at Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex in Stephenville. The first game of the series will get underway on Friday at 3 p.m.
