THE GAME
Fresh off a win over No. 20 Midwestern State Wednesday night, Tarleton State will take its three-game conference winning streak on the road Saturday to square off with Cameron at 2 p.m. in Lawton, Oklahoma.
THE BROADCAST
The game will have a live radio broadcast presented by the Tarleton Sports Network presented by North Texas Ford Dealers. The Voice of the TexAnns, Keltin Wiens, will serve as the play-by-play for Tarleton basketball this season. The radio broadcast can be heard on KTRL 90.5 FM in Stephenville and surrounding areas or online at TarletonSports.com/ListenLive. The pregame show will begin 15 minutes prior to tip-off.
THE OPPONENT
After a rough 1-6 start to the season, Cameron has turned things around since pulling out an 82-81 win at Southeastern Oklahoma on December 15. That victory was the first of six wins over the next seven games, leading up to Saturday's affair with Tarleton State. Over that span, the Aggies reeled off wins over Eastern New Mexico, Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman's. They are currently tied for second-place in the LSC standings with a 3-1 conference record, alongside Tarleton State.
THE SERIES
This rivalry is a relatively new one between the TexAnns and Aggies, dating back to Tarleton's final season as an NAIA competitor. In a back-and-forth series, Tarleton State dominated from 2006-2013 by winning seven straight over the Aggies including an 89-50 win in Stephenville in 2013.
WINNING BIG
Since the series between Tarleton and Cameron began, it has featured its share of tight games and blowouts - usually in Tarleton's favor. Of Tarleton's 13 wins, nine (9) of them have come by double figures including a 39-point win over the Aggies in 2013 while Cameron has won just one of its 12 victories by more than 10 points in the 21-year history of this rivalry.
BIG WINS, TINY LOSSES
In Tarleton wins, the TexAnns have an average margin of victory of 16.5 while the Aggies have won their 12 games over Tarleton by an average of 6.0 points.
TARLETON IN THE LSC
Tarleton State has developed into one of the premier basketball programs in the nation, as well as within the Lone Star Conference. The TexAnns earned their first league championship in 2012 and reached the finals of the LSC Championship Tournament for the second time in three years last season. Since joining the LSC as an NCAA institution in 1994, the TexAnns have a record of 165-139 against conference foes, including five seasons - four consecutive - of over 10 conference wins.
MILESTONE WATCH
•With 216 career assists,
Morgan Ashmore is five (5) dimes from passing Karla Dick (220) for the No. 12 spot on the all-time list.
•
Kathy Thomas enters Wednesday's game with 65 career 3-pointers made. She is nine (9) made triples from passing Amanda Franklin (73) for 15th place all-time and into a tie for 14th all-time with Tiffanie Bowen.
WILSON IN JANUARY
Since the 2010-11 season, Wilson and the TexAnns are 31-6 in the month of January.
WILSON'S BIG WIN
Misty Wilson is now 1-for-1 in games against nationally ranked opponents as a head coach after defeating No. 20 Midwestern State Wednesday night.
O'DELL AGAINST THE AGGIES
Cameron is a familiar foe to junior guard
Meagan O'Dell, who recorded her first career double-figure scoring effort against the Aggies as a true freshman on Jan. 9, 2013 with 10 points off the bench. She currently leads all active TexAnns in points against the Aggies with 25 points in four career games on 10-21 shooting from the floor.
TOPS IN THE NATION
Tarleton State ranks among the nations best in multiple statistical categories, including:
• No. 16 in FT percentage (.764)
• No. 48 in 3-pt Defense (.278)
• No. 49 in 3-point percentage (.358)
UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
