TexAnns fall in Laredo despite career night from Mack

LAREDO – Averie Mack averaged one point for every minute she was in the game Tuesday night as the sophomore went for 19 points and 14 rebounds in Tarleton's 67-60 loss at Texas A&M International.

Mack, who has now scored double figures in consecutive games, poured in a new career high with 19 points on 4-12 shooting from the floor and 11-12 shooting at the charity stripe while grabbing 14 rebounds, including eight offensive, for her first career double-double.

She is the first TexAnn to record a double-double off the bench since Ikpeaku Iwobi did it as a freshman against Texas College on Jan. 2, 2014 and the first TexAnn to do it off the bench against a NCAA Division II opponent since Kiara Wright's freshman season when the future All-American went for 10 points and 13 rebounds against Abilene Christian on Feb. 23, 2011.

Tarleton opened the game playing catch-up after the Dustdevils scored the opening points on a three-pointer and led the entire first quarter. International extended the lead to five a couple minutes into the second quarter but Raven McGrath drew a foul and connected for one of the free throws to start a dominating Tarleton run over the rest of the first half.

The McGrath free throw, which was followed up with a triple from Bailey Wipff, started a 15-4 over the rest of the first half that sent Tarleton into the break with a 28-22 advantage.

The second half was a different story as Tarleton was outscored 45-32 while shooting 35 percent from the field and 25 percent from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, the Dustdevils shot 52 percent from the field in the second half. Tarleton also surrendered 22 turnovers and only forced 15 from International.

Behind Mack's 19 points, Wipff also cracked double figures for the fourth time in five games with 10 points. Ikpeaku Iwobi just missed her fourth straight double-double with nine points and seven rebounds. Meanwhile, McGrath (8), Morgan Ashmore (4), Meagan O'Dell (3), Nia Jackson (3), Tiara Tatum (2), and Travanti Downes (2) rounded out the scoring.

Tarleton will take a break from game play for the rest of November and will return to action December 1 against Arlington Baptist at 5:30 p.m. in Wisdom Gym.
