TexAnns take down A&M-Kingsville, go undefeated at home during regular season

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton Volleyball stretched its conference winning streak to 13 games with a 3-1 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville on senior night at Wisdom Gym.

With the win, Tarleton, the No. 2-ranked team in the South Central region, improves to 23-5 overall and 13-1 in the Lone Star Conference. The TexAnns hold a one-game lead over Angelo State with two games remaining.

The TexAnns capped off a perfect regular season home record at 11-0. It's the first undefeated home record in the NCAA era and the second time since 1991 when the TexAnns were an NAIA affiliate.

Tarleton had three players record double-digit kills, led by Hailey Roberts with 13. Roberts also added 12 digs for her 17th double-double of the season. Senior Kenya Alexander posted a double-double with 13 kills and a .600 clip with 11 blocks. Xzache Mathis, another TexAnn senior, had 12 kills.

Chandler Gow assisted on 35 of the TexAnns' 49 kills and also had four digs, two kills and two blocks. Senior Macie Walker also had six assists for the TexAnns.

Defensively, senior Ayssa Garcia led the TexAnns with 15 digs. Senior Kelsey Raglin added five kills and a block, and senior Meg Umbel had three kills and a block. Adrianna Knutson also added six digs for the TexAnns.

Garica gave Tarleton a 6-5 lead in the first set on a service ace that sparked a 7-0 run for an 11-5 advantage. Roberts had two straight kills late in the set for a 21-8 lead and the TexAnns went on to win 25-11 for a 1-0 lead.

The two squads split the first 10 points of the second set before Tarleton went on a 3-0 run to lead 11-8. The Javelinas pulled to within 14-13, went on a 6-1 run behind kills from Raglin and Alexander to lead 20-14. Tarleton went on to win the second set 25-18 for a commanding 2-0 advantage.

The Javelinas, the No. 7-ranked team in the regional poll, won the third set 25-21 after controlling the set early with a 1-8 lead. Tarleton fought back to make it a 19-22 game before Kingsville took the set.

Tarleton made sure to avoid going to a fifth set at home for the first time all season by shutting the door on the Javelinas' comeback bid. The TexAnns led 13-6 midway through the set that was highlighted by four blocks from Alexander and a pair  of deflections from Roberts and Raglin. Mathis' kill padded Tarleton's lead to 20-12 and Raglin put the finishing touches on the conference win with a kill and a 25-18 fourth-set win.

The TexAnns return to action on Friday, Nov. 13 at 3 p.m. in Wichita Falls, Texas to take on Midwestern State and then Cameron on Saturday at 3 p.m. for the final regular season game of the year.
