LAS VEGAS, Nevada – The TexAnns couldn't overcome a double-digit deficit to Montana State-Billings and dropped the final game of the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic 74-62.
Tarleton (6-4) went back and forth with the Lady Yellow Jackets in the first quarter and took a 12-10 lead on
Raven McGrath's three-pointer – her first of four threes on the game.
But MSUB closed the quarter on an 8-0 run and scored five straight to start the second quarter to build a 23-12 advantage.
Tarleton shot 36 percent in the first half to MSUB's 46 percent and trailed 41-25 through the two quarters.
Tarleton opened the fourth quarter with two straight three-pointers from McGrath and
Meagan O'Dell to make it a 58-44 game.
Bailey Wipff drained another three to make it a nine-point game after the TexAnns trailed by as much as 22 points.
The nine points, however, was as close as the TexAnns would get in an attempt for their third straight game of coming back to win after being down by double digits.
McGrath finished with a season-high 16 points to lead the TexAnns. The senior guard also pulled down a team-best five rebounds and had two steals.
Wipff was right behind with 15 points and four rebounds. Ashmore was the third TexAnn to score in double figures, finishing with 10 points and season-high seven assists.
Ikpeaku Iwobi scored six points and
Travanti Downes had two points to round out the TexAnns starters.
Tarleton scored 13 points off the bench, led by O'Dell's six points, both coming on three-pointers.
Breanna Fuller added four points and four rebounds and
Averie Mack had two.
The TexAnns finished the game shooting 36 percent from the floor and had 22 turnovers. The nine three-pointers by Tarleton were the second most made this season.
Tarleton will star Lone Star Conference play in its next game as they take on Texas Woman's on the road on Dec. 31 at 7 p.m.
