Texans win 20 for 16th time under Reisman with victory over Cameron

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton State got four double-figure scoring efforts, including 24 from Mo Lee, as the No. 12 Texans notched the 16th 20-win season under head coach Lonn Reisman with an 87-73 win over Cameron.

For the Texans, this win marks the sixth straight 20-win season for Tarleton and 11th over the past 13 seasons.

"I don't think anyone understands how hard it is to win 20 games in a season when you play in this conference," said Reisman. "It is so competitive. We are fortunate to have a university and community that support our program. There were 3,000 people here tonight. They've just been so supportive and they're a big reason we have been able to reach this level of success."

The Aggies came out swinging with the first seven points of the game to take a quick 7-0 lead, but Nosa Ebomwonyi got the Texan offense rolling with a 3-ball for the first of eight unanswered points to give Tarleton the lead at 8-7.

Both teams jockeyed for position over the next eight minutes with neither side leading by more than five through 23-23 with 8:29 left, but Mo Lee got the Texans rolling with a 3-ball off a dime from Michael Hardge to start an 11-2 run, which including seven unanswered, to put Tarleton on top 34-25 with 4:23 left in the opening half.

After Cameron cut the Tarleton lead down to four, Tarleton ended the first half with an Ebomwonyi triple and two Hardge free throws in the final 1:19 to enter halftime with a 45-36 advantage.

TaShawn Mabry started a serious second-half run started with a jumper 15 seconds into the fresh half. The Mabry jumper was the first two points of a 22-8 run over the first 9:27 of the second half that pushed Tarleton's lead to a game-high 23 points with 10:33 left in the game.

The Aggies fought back, pulling as close as 11 with 1:14 left in the game, but Mo Lee drilled three free throws in the final minute to seal the win for Tarleton.

Lee's team-high 24 points matches his career high, which he set last weekend at Texas A&M-Commerce, for his fourth 20-point performance in the last six games on 5-6 shooting from the floor, including 3-4 from downtown, and 11-12 at the free throw line.

Ebomwonyi scored a career-high 15 points while EJ Reed and Hardge also cracked double figures with 13 and 10, respectively. Mabry scored eight while Malcolm Hamilton (7), Damion Clemons (7) and Deshawn Riddick (3) rounded out the Tarleton scoring.

As a team, Tarleton State shot 54 percent from the floor, including 52 percent from downtown on 12-23 shooting, and 85 percent from the free throw line on 29-34 shooting. For the week, Tarleton State is 56-64 from the free throw line for an 88-percent success rate.

Tarleton also won the rebounding battle 29-21, led by seven boards each from Reed and Clemons.

The Texans will return home Wednesday night for their third game against a nationally ranked opponent in the last four games when No. 12 Tarleton hosts No. 7 Angelo State at Wisdom Gym at 7:30 p.m.
