SAN ANGELO – Tarleton Baseball dropped the series finale 11-4 to Angelo on Sunday at Foster Field to split the four-game series. The Texans move to 16-17 overall and 10-13 in the Lone Star Conference.
Â
The Texans loaded the bases in the first inning and managed to plate one run when
Kevin Meredith walked to score
Jonathan Schmitz after his leadoff double. Tarleton left the bases load and was the start of 12 runners they left on base in the game.
Â
Angelo's four-run third began a stretch of scoring in four straight innings where the Rams scored all 11 of their runs.
Â
Derek Tyner launched a two-run home run in the third and had a solo shot in the fifth for Angelo to cap off a 2-for-3 afternoon with three RBIs.
Â
Dalton Weeks led off the fourth for Tarleton with a hit by pitch and stole second—his third stolen base of the series—and later scored on
Matt Olive's single up the middle to make it a 4-2 Angelo lead.
Â
Olive reached base all four times, going 2-for-2 with a run and two walks.
Â
The Rams, however, scored the next seven runs to pull away from the Texans.
Â
Tarleton added two runs in the eighth on three straight singles by
Elijah Christenson, Olive and
Zach Fleet.
Â
Colton Burleson started on the mound and went 2 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on three hits while striking out one. Burleson fell to 3-2 on the season.
Â
Cole Foster threw the final three innings for Tarleton and didn't allow a hit while striking out two.
Â
The Texans will continue their seven-game road trip when they head to Lawton, Okla. on Friday to take on Cameron. Tarleton returns home on April 21 for a nonconference game against St. Mary's.
