PORTALES, NM – The Tarleton TexAnns put their power on display in Portales with 24 runs in two games to sweep the first doubleheader against Eastern New Mexico.

Game 1: Tarleton 8, Eastern NM 4

The Tarleton offense provided plenty of support in the opening game of the series as
Haley Freyman became the fifth player in school history to win 18 games in a single season Friday afternoon.

Freyman improved on her league-leading amount of innings pitched with her 11
th complete game of the season en route to the win. She allowed four runs – three earned – on seven hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts for the game.

The offense went to work right away when
Nyka Wood cashed in with two outs.
Melody Mayse led off the game with a walk and a stolen base before the freshman catcher drove her in with a single to second base for a 1-0 Tarleton lead.

After a scoreless second, Tarleton padded the lead with a two-run blast to dead centerfield to put the TexAnns up 3-0.

Eastern New Mexico got on the board in the fourth inning on an RBI single, but Tarleton answered the call right back in the ensuing half inning. Rebekah Allen brought home
Savannah Stech with a sacrifice fly before
Mikayla Stogsdill drove in the second run of the inning – and fifth of the game – with an RBI single to center.

A Mayse home run in the sixth and a pair of RBI fielder's choices from
Alyssa Ringhausen and
Jessie Thompson in the seventh brought the TexAnn score to eight while the Zias only big strike of the game came on a three-run home run in the seventh.

Wood paced the way with a 3-4 day at the dish while Mayse, Stech, Conlee and Stogsdill also had multi-hit efforts with two each.
Delaney Wayland,
Erika Menchaca and Allen had the rest of Tarleton's 14 hits for the game.

Game 2: Tarleton 16, Eastern NM 5

Tarleton State got two RBIs from six different players, including the top third of the batting order, as the TexAnns crushed Eastern New Mexico 16-5 in six innings to claim the doubleheader sweep Friday night.

Tarleton State got the scoring started early and often, beginning with a two-run home run from Conlee in the opening frame. They would add three more in the third on an RBI fielder's choice and walk as well as a Zia miscue that allowed the fifth TexAnn run of the game to come across.

Meanwhile, the Zias were matching the TexAnns run-for-run with one in the first and second before tying things up with a matching three-run third inning.

Tarleton took control in the fourth inning, however, as they responded to the Zia scoring efforts with four runs in the fourth on an RBI fielder's choice from Allen, an RBI single from Stogsdill and a bases loaded walk from Mayse. The fourth run of the inning – and ninth in the game – came across on another one of five Eastern New Mexico errors in the game.

Shelby Hedrick, on the other hand, dominated the game over the final three innings by posting up goose eggs in the fourth, fifth and sixth.

Tarleton padded the lead with two in the fifth on a two-run bomb from
Erika Menchaca before claiming the early win with five runs in the sixth inning. The Zias botched up a couple of throws to allow the first run of the inning to come across before a 2-RBI single from Stech, an RBI single from Stogsdill and the final RBI single from Wayland tallied the 16
th run of the game for the TexAnns.

Hedrick allowed one base hit in the final half inning to finish off the TexAnn win. The junior earned her third win of the season with six innings of work, allowing five runs – two earned – on eight hits and walk with three strikeouts.

Tarleton got three-hit performances from Conlee, Stogsdill, Wayland and
Lauren Powers to lead the 19-hit explosion, while Allen, Wood and Stech added two hits of their own. Menchaca's home run rounded out the offense.

Mayse, Stech, Conlee, Menchaca, Stogsdill and Wayland all had two RBIs in the win.

The TexAnns will look to continue their winning ways in tomorrow's regular season finale against the Zias in Portales.
