COMMERCE – Tarleton's season came to a close on Saturday with a 30-10 loss to No. 8 Texas A&M-Commerce.

The Texans scored the first 10 points of the game before the Lions put up the game's final 30 points. Tarleton finished 5-6 on the season and tied for fifth in the Lone Star Conference with a 5-4 league record.

Tarleton had 11 seniors play their final game tonight:
Bubba Tandy,
Cody Burtscher,
Joseph Sadler,
Kason Fornes,
Trent Gow,
Tate Whitten,
Dominique Martin,
Treston Ridge and Devyon Miles.

"I wouldn't take anything for these [seniors]," said head coach
Todd Whitten. "They're a great group of players. I'm just so proud of all these guys in purple and the way they have bought in for us. I will cherish this season all of my life."

Tarleton had 333 yards of offense behind 203 passing yards and 103 rushing yards. Senior running back
Joseph Sadler scored the game's first touchdown on a 2-yard run that capped off a 9-play, 94-yard drive in the first quarter. In his final game as a Texan, Sadler ran for 100 yards on 19 carries for his seventh career 100-yard rushing game, which is tied for fifth most 100-yard games in a career. Sadler had 700 rushing yards on the season and five touchdowns.

Sergio Sroka drilled a 44-yard field goal with 11:50 left in the second quarter for a 10-0 lead. Tarleton's defense held A&M-Commerce, a team who averaged 42 points per game leading into the game, scoreless until the final minute of the first half when the Lions found the end zone on a 54-yard pass from Luis Perez to Vincent Hobbs.

The Lions (10-1, 8-1) scored on its first drive of the second half, which resulted in the game-winning touchdown, when Gabriel Rodriguez scored on a 1-yard run for a 14-10 lead. A&M-Commerce would add to the score on an 8-yard run in the third, a 31-yard field goal in the fourth and a 70-yard punt return for the final touchdown.

Quarterback
Zed Woerner finished the game with 203 passing yards and 2,445 yards and 24 touchdowns on the season. Woerner's season total ranks ninth all time in a single season. Woerner will head into his senior season needing two touchdown passes to break the school record of 51 touchdowns held by Steve Kelly.

Bubba Tandy ended his four-year Texan career with two catches for thirty yards but finished the season with 695 yards on 42 catches and seven touchdowns. For Tandy's career, he hauled in 158 passes for 2,388 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Senior linebacker and four-year letterman
Cody Burtscher had a team-high eight tackles to finish the season with an LSC-leading 117 tackles. Burtscher, who transitioned to linebacker from running back for his final two seasons, recorded 218 tackles in his career along with nine sacks and four interceptions.
