STEPHENVILLE – No. 7 Tarleton shook off Friday's loss with a 28-point stomping of Emmanuel, 75-47, on Saturday to close out the Thanksgiving Classic.<br />

Emmanuel was within two points of Tarleton at 17-15 with 10:06 in the first half, then the Texans locked down on both ends of the floor and closed out the half on a 24-7 run. During the run,
Anthony Davis and
Josh Hawley, both redshirt freshman, combined to score 12 of the 24 points in the final nine minutes of the first half. Davis finished the game with 13 points and five rebounds while Hawley scored 12 points with six rebounds and two steals. The Texans shot a season-high 53 percent to build a 22-point halftime lead over the visiting Lions.<br />

Tarleton (4-1) opened the second half on an 8-0 run that gave the Texans a 30-point lead at 52-22. Midway through the second half, Hawley's steal at midcourt turned into an easy two-handed dunk that started a 10-0 Texan run for its biggest lead of the game at 69-36.<br />

Tarleton's big men were too much for Emmanuel's as the Texans' four post players combined to score as many points as the Lions did in the game with
Romond Jenkins (13 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks),
Curtiss Anderson (9 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks) and Davis (13)/Hawley (12). In addition, Tarleton had 32 points in the paint compared to Emmanuel's 18.<br />

Denzel Smith came off the bench to score a career-high 11 points and grabbed five rebounds. The Texan bench outscored the Lions 32-15. After posting a career-high 27 points,
Deshawn Riddick scored nine points in the game.
Chantz Chambers led the team with three assists and also had four points.<br />

The Texan defense played as well as it has all season. In addition to holding Emmanuel to a season-low 47 points, Tarleton also recorded double-digit steals with 10 for the third time this season and also blocked a season-best eight shots. The Texans forced the Lions into 17 turnovers that resulted in 19 points for the Tarleton. Emmanuel only shot 27 percent for the game and 16 percent on 3-pointers.<br />

The Texans will begin Lone Star Conference play at home on Thursday, Dec. 1 against rival Midwestern State at 7:30 p.m.
