No. 15 Tarleton handles Simon Fraser in Las Vegas to win 7th straight

LAS VEGAS – No. 15 Tarleton won its seventh straight game with an 88-63 rout over Canada's Simon Fraser to open the Holiday Hoops Classic at the South Point Arena on Sunday night.

Tarleton (10-1) shot 57 percent from the floor and a season-best 60 percent (12-20) on 3-pointers. The Texans had five players score in double figures, with Romond Jenkins leading the way with 18 points. The Texans improve to 6-1 all-time in the Holiday Hoops Classic.

Tarleton led throughout the game and started with a 7-0 run over the Clan. Simon Fraser got to within 12-10 in the first four minutes, but the Texans would jump out to a double digit lead in the first half at 26-15 on Chantz Chamers' 3-point shot.

Ridell Camidge (4 of 7), Deshawn Riddick (3 of 4) and Chambers (3 of 5) combined to shoot 63 percent from 3-point range in the game. Camidge finished with 16 points, Riddick had 15 and Chambers scored 13 for the Texans.

Jenkins had a stretch in the first half where he scored 10 straight points for the Texans – six of the points coming on offensive rebounds – and had 14 points and nine rebounds in the first half. Jenkins finished with 14 rebounds to go with his 18 points for his sixth double-double of the season. Tarleton improved to 6-0 when the senior records a double-double. Jenkins is averaging 19 points and 13 rebounds over the last three games.

Tarleton led 45-34 at the break while shooting 55 percent from the floor and only committing five turnovers. The Texans had nine turnovers in the game and finished with less than 10 giveaways for the second straight game.

Tarleton pulled away in the second half by outscoring Simon Fraser 43-29.  The Texans maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half and the margin stretched to 20 when the Texans connected on three straight 3's for an 81-60 lead. Tarleton shot 60 percent from the floor in the second half and was 7 of 10 on 3-pointers.

Josh Hawley came off the bench to pour in 11 points, his third straight double-digit scoring effort in reserve. Anthony Davis added eight points and five rebounds while Curtiss Anderson (4) and Lance Ewell (3) rounded out the scoring. Riddick and Camidge each had three assists to lead the team.

Tarleton will take on No. 12 Western Washington on Monday, Dec. 19 at 10 p.m. CST at the Doolittle Community Center in Las Vegas. The game was moved from the scheduled location and will not have a live stream available. Live stats and the radio broadcast links will be on TarletonSports.com.
