Allen’s walk-off home run lifts Tarleton to day one split at Rattler Invitational opener

SAN ANTONIO – Rebeka Allen belted her first career walk-off home run to lead off the bottom of the seventh and lift Tarleton to a win over Oklahoma Christian in a Friday afternoon split of Friday's doubleheader at the Rattler Invitational.

Game 1: No. 10 Tarleton 4, Oklahoma Christian 3

After Tarleton rallied with two runs in the sixth to tie the game and Haley Freyman sat the Eagles down in order in the top of the seventh, Rebeka Allen ended the game with one fierce swing of the bat – cranking a walk-off, solo home run to right center to deliver Tarleton's 10th win of the season.

Oklahoma Christian started the scoring with an RBI single in the top of the first and, after four innings of the same score, eventually stretched it to 2-0 with another run in the top of the fifth.

Then the TexAnn offense came to life.

Mikayla Stogsdill, who is coming off a three-RBI outing in Tarleton's last game, put Tarleton on the board with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.

After Oklahoma Christian scratched out its final run of the game in the sixth for a 3-1 lead, Avery Mullendore got the offense rolling in the ensuing half inning with a leadoff single through the right side. After back-to-back walks loaded the bases, Savannah Stech drove in Mullendore on a sacrifice fly. On the sac fly, the outfielder threw behind the runners and Lauren Powers came in to score the tying run on heads-up base running to even things at 3-3.

Freyman shut the Eagles down in order in the seventh before Allen sent the TexAnns to their 10th win of the season. Freyman earned her eighth win of the season with a complete game, allowing three runs – two earned – on seven hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

The Tarleton offense got 10 hits in the game, including a 3-for-4 effort from Katelyn Conlee. Nyka Wood and Stogsdill also had multi-hit games with two each while Melody Mayse, Mullendore, and Allen rounded out the offense.

Game 2: No. 12 St. Mary's 8, No. 10 Tarleton 3

In the second game of Friday's doubleheader, Tarleton couldn't overcome a four-run bottom of the first inning as the TexAnns fell to the Rattlers.

Tarleton took advantage of two quick errors in the top of the first inning to get on the board in the top of the first inning. St. Mary's responded with four runs on three hits and an error in the ensuing half inning to take a 4-1 lead, which would hold until the third inning.

Tarleton scored one run in the third on an RBI single from Allen and one more in the fifth on an RBI double from Katelyn Conlee, but St. Mary's answered with two runs in each of the same innings to claim the win 8-3.

The TexAnns outhit St. Mary's 8-5 for the game with Mayse going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Stech, Conlee, Wood, Allen, Stogsdill, and Powers had one hit each while Alyssa Ringhausen took the loss from the circle. She went 2.2 innings, allowing six runs – five earned – on four hits and three walks. Shelby Hedrick pitched 1.2 innings out of the bullpen, allowing a pair of unearned runs on one hit and four walks before giving way to Freyman for the final 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.

Tarleton will get back to action tomorrow with games against Central Oklahoma and Texas A&M International.
