THE GAME
No. 4-seed Tarleton takes on No. 5 Colorado School of Mines in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in Wichita Falls on Saturday, March 12 at 8:30 p.m.
 
THE BROADCAST
Each game will have a live radio broadcast presented by the Tarleton Sports Network presented by North Texas Ford Dealers. The Voice of the Texans, Casey Hogan, will be back calling the play-by-play for Tarleton basketball. The radio broadcast can be heard on KTRL 90.5 FM in Stephenville and surrounding areas or online at TarletonSports.com/ListenLive. Hogan will provide a special 30-minute pregame show for the NCAA Tournament.
 
THE OPPONENT: COLORADO MINES
Colorado Mines is making its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance, all of them coming since 2010. The Orediggers are 3-2 in the NCAA First Round, advancing in 2011, 2012, and 2014. The Orediggers are 24-7 on the season and went 17-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Mines was the RMAC Tournament runner-up, falling to Fort Lewis, 73-72. Tarleton and Mines have matched up only one time prior, back in 1991, when Tarleton won 81-50.
 
NCAA TOURNAMENT
Tarleton is making its 13th NCAA Tournament appearance all time and its seventh straight. Tarleton made its first tournament appearance in 2002 and in that stretch has won three regional championships and reached the Final Four twice.
 
HISTORY IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
Tarleton is 19-12 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. In the regional tournament, the Texans are 9-3 in the first round, 5-4 in the semifinals, and 3-2 in the regional finals. The Texans have been the No. 4 seed one other time (2010) and is 1-1.

500-POINT CLUB
EJ Reed has scored 511 points this season and is one of four players in the last 10 season to score 500 points in a season. Reed joins Mo Lee (530 in 2015), De'Andre Upchurch (545 in 2014), and John Davis (555 in 2007) to reach the mark. Reed needs 19 points to tie Lee and Tracy Guy for 15th all time in a single season.
 
RO'S ON A ROLE
During Tarleton's last six games, Romond Jenkins has been the low-post presence the Texans needed. Jenkins is averaging 11.8 points, a team-high 11 rebounds, 80 percent from the floor (32-40).

GETTING TO THE LINE
Michael Hardge has made 144 free throws this season, which is the fifth most in a season in school history. Hardge made 143 last season. Mo Lee holds the record with 184 in 2015.
 
SINGLE SEASON SWATS
Xavier Smith has 61 blocks in his first season with Tarleton. The junior forward passed Roderick Brown for 9th all time and needs two blocks to pass Vincent Bridgewater. Smith's 61 blocks also rank 14th all time in a career. Vincent Bridgewater holds the record with 81 in a season.
