TexAnn Softball drops doubleheader at Midwestern State

WICHITA FALLS – Tarleton dropped both games of the series finale to Midwestern State at Mustangs Park Saturday afternoon.

Game 1: Midwestern State 2, Tarleton 1

The Tarleton offense wasn't without its chances as the TexAnns stranded 10 baserunners and dropped a 2-1 pitcher's duel to the Mustangs in the first game of the afternoon.

Tarleton's lone run scored on an RBI double from Savannah Stech to lead 1-0 in the top of the third. That is all the offense Tarleton would muster despite a seven-hit attack on the day, led by a 2-for-3 effort from Katelyn Conlee and one hit each from Stech, Nyka Wood, Avery Mullendore, Amanda Conner, and Delaney Wayland.

Meanwhile, Haley Freyman, who tossed a three-hit shutout the night before, took the tough-luck loss with six innings of work. She allowed just two RBI singles in the sixth inning while striking out five for the game.

Game 2: Midwestern State 3, Tarleton 1

Tarleton's scoring woes continued in the series finale as the TexAnns fell 3-1 to the Mustangs.

The TexAnns drew three walks and got four hits – singles from Rebeka Allen, Mullendore, and Alyssa Ringhausen, and an RBI double from Taylor Fitzgerald. The double from Fitzgerald came in the top of the seventh when the senior lifted one to straight away center to bring home Allen with two outs for Tarleton's lone run of the game.

Meanwhile, Freyman continued to deal from the circle.

The sophomore right-hander threw six more innings of work, this time allowing three runs on 10 hits and three walks with a pair of punch outs.

Tarleton will return to action on Tuesday in Odessa with a doubleheader at Texas-Permian Basin at 2 p.m.
