DENTON – McKinley Bostad and Mackenzie Hailey combined for 31 points to lead the TexAnns to their third win of the young season with a 55-42 win over Regis (CO) to close out the Best Western Pioneer Invitational at Kitty Magee Arena Sunday afternoon.
Tarleton opened the game on a 14-2 run, six of which were scored by Mackenzie Hailey who started the game 5-5 shooting from the floor, and never looked back.
Regis clawed back in the second quarter, bringing the game as close as three points at 23-20 with 2:54 left in the opening half, but another bucket from Hailey started a run a of 10 unanswered points over the rest of the half to send the TexAnns into halftime with a 33-20 lead. McKinley Bostad scored five of the 10 points over that stretch.
Tarleton maintained a double-digit lead over the entire third quarter before the Rangers pulled within eight as late as the 1:31 mark of the fourth quarter, but Bostad scored three more and Kylie Collins went 4-4 at the free throw line in the final 1:11 to seal the deal for the TexAnns.
Bostad led the offense with 18 points on 6-8 shooting from the floor and 3-3 shooting from downtown while Hailey finished the game with 13 points and four rebounds. Tarleton's starting lineup combined for 52 of the team's 55 points as Katie Webster (9), Collins (6), and Tiara Tatum (6) rounded out the scoring from the starting five. Trejouir Wilson scored three off the bench for Tarleton.
As a team, Tarleton shot .435 from the floor and .545 from downtown on 6-11 shooting from beyond the arc. The TexAnns overcame a 46-22 defeat in the rebounding game.
Tarleton will have a quick turnaround as the TexAnns will travel to Lubbock Tuesday night for a 6 p.m. showdown against Lubbock Christian.
