LAWTON, Okla. – Tarleton women's basketball dropped its second straight Lone Star Conference game on the road, falling to Cameron 70-63 at Aggie Gym.
Mackenzie Hailey poured in a career-high 28 points, but was the only TexAnn to score in double figures in the game. Hailey was 11-16 from the floor and added a team-high six rebounds.
The TexAnns (3-4, 0-2) opened up the game on an 8-1 run, with Hailey scoring six quick points. The Aggies countered with an 8-0 run to lead 9-8. Later in the first quarter, Baylee Peck and Nina Alvarez drilled a pair of 3-point buckets to stretch the TexAnn advantage back to 19-13 with two minutes to go. Tarleton led 20-15 after the opening period. Alvarez had eight points and Peck added five in the game.
The TexAnns used a 6-0 run in the second quarter to jump back to a six-point lead at 26-20 behind Hailey's layup and four points from Webster. Webster finished with nine points and five rebounds.
Leading 26-23 in the second quarter, Tarleton went on another 6-0 run and had its biggest lead of the game at 32-23 with 4:52 to go in the first half by attacking the basket and getting layups from Webster and Hailey.
Cameron closed the first half on a 6-0 run of its own, but the TexAnns led 38-35 at the break.
Hailey opened the second half with a quick layup on an assist from Kyle Collins for a 40-35 lead, but the Aggies scored the next 10 points to jump out in front 45-40 and never trailed again.
In the fourth quarter, Hailey drained a 3-pointer at the top of the key to tie the game at 54-54 with 7:02 remaining. But the Aggies went on another big run, this time an 11-0 stretch for a 65-54 lead with 2:43 left. The TexAnns cut the deficit to 67-63 but couldn't get shots to fall in the final seconds and the Aggies sealed it at the free-throw line.
The TexAnns shot 37 percent from the floor and only 25 percent on 3-pointers (5-20). Cameron shot 45 percent from the field but the TexAnns forced the Aggies into 24 turnovers. Tarleton was out rebounded 44-27 in the game.
The TexAnns will return home to take on Western New Mexico on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m.
