STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton women's basketball's comeback bid against Eastern New Mexico fell short in a 78-72 overtime loss on Saturday at Wisdom Gym.
McKinley Bostad scored a career-high 19 points to lead all scorers, while Katie Webster posted 16 points and Mackenzie Hailey added 13 points.
The TexAnns (4-5, 1-3) had an 8-5 lead early in the first quarter before the Greyhounds closed out on a 14-5 run to end the opening period. The Greyhounds would hold the lead until the fourth quarter, leading by as much as 15 points in the first half.
Eastern New Mexico led 34-26 at the break, with Tarleton shooting 39 percent from the floor and the Greyhounds connecting on 48 percent of their shots.
After trailing by nine entering the fourth quarter, Tarleton went on a 9-0 run that started with Webster's three pointer to cut the deficit to 53-44. Makaila Tyer jumper, followed by Hailey's 3-point play and Kylie Collins' free throw brought the TexAnns within three at 53-50 with 7:07 remaining.
Tarleton trailed 60-55 when Bostad took matters into her own hands and scored the next six points, including a 3-point play with 47 seconds left to give the TexAnns their first lead since the opening minutes at 61-60.
The Greyhounds made a pair of free throws for a 62-61 lead with 17 seconds left, but Webster followed by driving to the basketball and drawing the foul while making the layup. Webster's free throw to complete the 3-point play made it 64-62 with 11 seconds left.
However, Eastern New Mexico's ensuing possession summed up the game for Tarleton. The Greyhounds got an offensive rebound and made the put back shot at the buzzer to tie the game and send it to overtime. The TexAnns were out rebounded 42-22 in the game and only had 12 defensive rebounds.
The Greyhounds opened up the overtime period on a 9-2 run to end Tarleton's chances of a conference win.
The TexAnns forced the Greyhounds into 30 turnovers and but only converted them into 22 points.
Tarleton will travel to Arkansas Fort-Smith for its next game on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 1 p.m.
