DENTON – It was a cold-shooting afternoon for the TexAnns at Kitty Magee Arena as Tarleton dropped its second straight game, this one to Texas Woman's 53-48 Saturday afternoon.
Tarleton shot .365 from the floor for the game, including a .263 mark from downtown on 5-19 shooting from beyond the arc. Tarleton was 0-5 from three-point land in the second half.
Bailey Wipff got things going for the TexAnns early on as the senior from Lubbock buried back-to-back three-balls before dishing out a dime to
Ikpeaku Iwobi for An 8-0 Tarleton run over the first two minutes. The TexAnns carried that early lead into a 13-9 first-quarter advantage.
Tarleton pushed its lead to as many as nine in the second quarter before the Pioneers closed the half out on an 11-2 run to tie the game at 24-24 at the break. Tarleton came out of the break and won the third quarter 16-14, but were outscored 15-8 over the final 10 minutes as Texas Woman's took the win.
Wipff led the way with 13 points while
Mackenzie Hailey (11) and
Travanti Downes (10) also cracked double figures. Iwobi scored seven while
Tiara Tatum (5) and
Baylee Peck (2) rounded out the scoring.
Tarleton will look to get back in the win column next week as the TexAnns wrap up the regular season with a road trip to Odessa and Canyon. Saturday's game at Canyon will be broadcasted on NCAA.com and American Sports Network.
