DENTON – Despite
Megan Durante's first career multi-home run performance at the plate, Tarleton committed four errors in the field and dropped the first game of the three-game series at Pioneer Field against Texas Woman's.
The Pioneers started the scoring with solo runs in the first and second as the game headed into the fourth inning with Tarleton trailing 2-0, but Durante cut the deficit in half with a home run to left field to put Tarleton on the scoreboard and extend her team high hitting streak to 12 consecutive games.
Texas Woman's pulled away with a four-run fourth inning before Tarleton tacked on one more in the fifth on a
Nyka Wood RBI single and another in the sixth when Durante found the outfield seats once more for the TexAnns' third run of the game. The Pioneers answered each of Tarleton's last two runs with runs of their own in the ensuing half inning to bring the game to its final score.
Tarleton pounded out 10 hits in the game, including two-hit performances from
Meghann Wrinkle, Durante,
Marisa Flores, and
Avery Mullendore while
Maddie Quintanar and Wood rounded out the offensive attack with one hit each.
The TexAnns and Pioneers will return to action tomorrow afternoon with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Pioneer Field.
