STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton men's basketball couldn't overcome its shooting woes in the final minutes as Angelo State stunned the Texans 73-71 on Thursday in Wisdom Gym.
Tarleton (7-6, 3-2) led 71-64 but was held scoreless in the final three minutes of play while Angelo State closed the game on a 9-0 run. Brandon Williams' layup with six seconds left proved to be the game winner.

The Texans jumped out to as quick of a start as you can draw up, leading the Rams 29-14 in the first ten minutes of the game. The Texans drilled five 3-pointers during the stretch, including three by
Deshawn Riddick, who had a season-high 20 points to go with seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Jesse Hill's 3-pointer with 7:57 left in the first half gave Tarleton its largest lead of the game at 34-16. Angelo State would close the gap with a 21-9 run to end the half, giving the Texans a 43-37 lead at the break.
The Rams took their first lead five minutes into the second half at 50-48 with their largest lead coming moments later at just four points.
Tarleton went on a 13-4 run over the next six minutes with the Texans capitalizing off Angelo State turnovers.
Corinthian Ramsey had a pair layups during the stretch for a 69-62 lead, but it was the last field goal the Texans would make in the game. Ramsey finished with 13 points and five assists.
Josh Hawley registered his fifth career double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Hawley also blocked a career-high four shots and had a steal. The Texans had nine blocks in the game, with
Clashon Gaffney swatting three shots and Hill adding two blocks.
Tarleton will host Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday, January 6 at 4 p.m.
