Box Score STEPHENVILLE – The starting five for Tarleton combined for 76 of the team's 79 points as the TexAnns defeated St. Mary's 79-69 in the final women's game of the F&M Bank Tip-Off Classic Saturday night.
Katie Webster got things started on the right foot for Tarleton as the senior scored the opening bucket of the game that started a 9-2 run for the TexAnns. Tarleton wouldn't stop there as they extended the lead out to 19 by the end of the opening quarter with
Marissa Escamilla finishing off the quarter with a layup.
After the Rattlers answered in the second quarter by outscoring Tarleton 23-12 to bring the score within eight at halftime.
The teams traded blows in the third quarter with the Rattlers pulling as close as five and Tarleton leading by as many as 10 before the TexAnns went into the fourth quarter with a nine-point lead.
Tarleton scored 11 points in the first three minutes of the fourth to extend its lead out to 16. After the Rattlers answered back to pull within seven with two minutes left, Tarleton's
Kaylee Allen made a jumper to start a run of five unanswered points by Tarleton to ultimately put the game out of reach.
Allen led the team with 26 points on 10-17 shooting in her second game as a TexAnn while
Mackenzie Hailey added 17 points and eight rebounds.
McKinley Bostad and
Katie Webster each had 16 points for Tarleton while Escamilla (2),
Lucy Benson (1), and
Kylie Collins (1) rounded out the scoring.
Tarleton shot .483 from the field as a team, including a .583 clip in the second half.
The TexAnns will hit the road for a California road trip next week when Tarleton visits Biola (Ca.) on Thursday and Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday.
