HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Tarleton started its run of three matches over four days by handling Saturday's match against Slippery Rock 6-3 in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
"It was important to start quick today," said head coach
Lance Drake. "Slippery Rock is the No. 5 team in their region and a very good team. We knew we needed to start strong – mission accomplished. That propelled us into singles and we got some good performances. I'm proud of how we carried ourselves on the court."
Tarleton came out swinging and swept doubles action, including an 8-0 sweep of the No. 2 match by
Shelby Fillingame and
Neetika Sud.
After Slippery Rock won the first singles match of the day,
Erika Johnston and
Neetika Sud secured Tarleton's win with victories in the No. 5 and 2 matches, respectively, before
Alicia Barbaroux put the final touches on the match with the team's sixth win.
