THE GAMES
For the sixth time in program history and the second straight year under head coach Mark Cumpian, Tarleton is back in the national playoffs with the goal of advancing to a Super Regional Series and beyond. The No. 17 TexAnns are the No. 5 seed in the South Central Region 1 Tournament in Grand Junction, Colorado this weekend and will begin their postseason run on Thursday at 4 p.m. CT / 3 p.m. MT against Lone Star Conference rival, Texas A&M-Commerce.

Game 1: Tarleton vs Texas A&M Commerce at 4 p.m. CT / 3 p.m. MT
Game 2: Rogers State vs Colorado Mesa at 6:30 p.m. CT / 5:30 p.m. MT
 
Friday, May 11
Game 3: Winner of Game 1 vs Winner of Game 2 at 1 p.m. CT / 12 p.m. MT

WHAT'S AT STAKE
The winner of the South Central Region 1 Tournament, which is hosted by top-seeded Colorado Mesa, will advance to the NCAA South Central Super Regional Series against the winner of the region 2 tournament, which is being held in San Angelo this weekend. The winner of the Super Regional Series will advance to the Women's College World Series.

A LOOK AT LAST TIME OUT
Tarleton advanced to the semifinals of the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament before bowing out in an extra-inning heartbreaker to No. 6 Angelo State. Megan Durante led the offense last week with an .800 batting average in two games and three RBI while Megan Rosewell had a 1.75 ERA in her start.
 
TEXANNS IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
The TexAnns dropped two spots to No. 17 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association in the latest rankings. For Tarleton, it's the 11th week in school history that the TexAnns have been a national top 20 team. Tarleton continues its record streak of weeks in the top 20 at seven straight.
 
MILESTONE WATCH: NYKA WOOD
Nyka Wood, who is already the school's all-time leader in RBI, doubles, and games played, is currently closing in on the following school records:
 
• Hits – Wood (254) is seven hits shy of passing Melody Mayse (260) for the all-time hits record
• Total Bases – Wood (376) is 13 total bases shy of passing Arianna Rodriguez (388) for the most total bases in program history.
 
MILESTONE WATCH: JORDAN WITHROW
Jordan Withrow is currently enjoying a stellar sophomore season and broke the single-season record for strikeout in a season with 232 and became the first player in school history to strike out 200 in a season. Withrow is closing in on the another single-season school records:
 
• Wins – With one more pitching victory, Jordan Withrow will pass Brooke Saulters (24; 2007) for the most wins by a Tarleton pitcher in a single season.
 
MILESTONE WATCH: Georgia Capell
Georgia Capell is enjoying one of the all-time greatest freshman seasons in the history of TexAnn Softball. The newcomer from Midlothian is currently closing in on the following single-season record:
 
• Home Runs – Capell is three home runs away from passing Arianna Rodriguez (18; 2012) for the most home runs in a year.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Tarleton and Texas A&M-Commerce have been regular rivals since the Lions started softball in 2015. Tarleton trails the all-time series 5-10 and suffered a sweep to begin Lone Star Conference play in February.
 
UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
Tarleton would advance to the South Central Super Regional Series for the first time since 2015 by winning the region 1 tournament.
