TexAnns fall on the road to Texas A&M-Commerce

COMMERCE – Tarleton women's basketball fell on the road to Texas A&M-Commerce, 89-80, on Tuesday at the Field House.
 
The TexAnns move to 9-4 overall 2-3 in the Lone Star Conference.
 
Tarleton used a 10-0 run in the first quarter to take a 17-11 lead, its biggest of the game. Katie Webster carried the load offensively to start the game, as Webster had eight points on 4-4 shooting in the first quarter as the TexAnns led 19-13.
 
Webster's efficiency carried over to the second quarter as the senior made her first eight shot attempts for a 16-point first half. Webster finished the game with a season-high 24 points on 11-18 shooting.
 
The TexAnns led 33-30 with 3:02 left in the first half after a pair of free throws from Hannah Hyde. The Lions, however, closed the half of a 12-2 run and the TexAnns never recovered.
 
Despite outshooting the Lions 52 percent to 45 percent, the TexAnns suffered on rebounding. The Lions won the rebound battle 49-26 which resulted in 30 second-chance points to the TexAnns' eight.
 
Texas A&M-Commerce (9-4, 4-1) used a 12-0 run to open the third quarter to go up by double digits and led by as much as 23 in the fourth quarter.
 
McKinley Bostad tried to keep the TexAnns close as the senior scored 18 of her 19 points in the second half and also had a game-high seven assists to go with four steals. Mackenzie Hailey added 10 points, giving the TexAnns three players in double figures scoring.
 
Kylie Collins added nine points on three 3-pointers, while Nina Alvarez (6 points), Kaylee Allen (4) Hannah Hyde (4), and Destiney Winkfield (4) rounded out the TexAnn scoring efforts.
 
Tarleton will return home to take on Texas Woman's on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 5:30 p.m. in Wisdom Gym.
