STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton Women's Basketball opened the 2019-20 season with a 28-point rout, taking down Adams State 69-41 at the Texan Tip-Off Classic in Wisdom Gym.

It was a one-sided first half in favor of Tarleton, as the Texans used an 18-5 first quarter and 27-6 second quarter to pull away from the Grizzlies and build a 34-point halftime lead at 45-11.

Senior forward Mackenzie Hailey scored 11 of her game-high 15 points in the first half, which matched Adams State's first-half total as a team. Hailey also added four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal in just 18 minutes of play.

The Texans built a double-digit lead at 13-3 just six minutes into the game and never let up. The 10-point lead was only the start of the Texans' fast start. In the second quarter, the Texans went on a 16-0 run that grew to a 22-2 run over an 8-minute span.

In the first half, Tarleton shot 55 percent from the floor while holding the Grizzlies to 20 percent shooting. The Texans also went 8-of-13 on 3-pointers, led by Hailey going 3-of-3 behind the arc, while Kylie Collins and Kaitlyn Guillory each added a pair of 3-pointers.

In her first game with the Texans, Guillory scored 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting to go with four assists and three rebounds. Collins added eight points, four rebounds, four assists and a game-high four steals to begin her senior year. As a team, the Texans had 10 steals.

Tarleton's lead grew to a game-high 37 points just minutes into the third quarter on a layup from Lucy Benson after one of Adams State's 21 turnovers. Benson scored eight points on 4-of-4 shooting and added a team-high six rebounds.

Alexa Hoy posted seven points in her Texan debut, giving the Texan starters 48 points in the game, which outscored the entire Adams State team by seven.

Freshman Jayci Morton led all Texans off the bench with seven points and three rebounds. Kandyn Faurie scored five points, Marissa Escamilla (4), Callie Boyles (3), and Erin Brumley (2) all scored off the bench.
