Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Tarleton Women’s Basketball closes out 2019 with rout of McMurry

STEPHENVILLE – In the final game of the 2019 calendar year and the first in 10 days, Tarleton dominated the second half to defeat McMurry University 82-47 Tuesday afternoon in Wisdom Gym.

After a slow start that saw the Warhawks take a 23-22 lead after the first 12 minutes of game time, Alexa Hoy drained a running jumper to put Tarleton on top 24-23 and start the game-deciding run. The Hoy bucket started a 14-0 Tarleton run that put Tarleton up 36-23 with two minutes left in the opening half.

In the second half, Tarleton dominated every aspect of the game – outscoring the Warhawks 44-19. Tarleton shot .556 (15-27) from the floor in the final 20 minutes while holding McMurry to a mere .259 (7-27).

Mackenzie Hailey led the team with 11 points and seven rebounds while Hoy, Kandyn Faurie and Callie Boyles also scored double figures with 10 points each. Marissa Escamilla also filled up the stat line with eight points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals on the afternoon.

Six other Texans also recorded points for Tarleton in the rout – Lucy Benson (9), Kaitlyn Guillory (7), Kylie Collins (6), Erin Brumley (5), Jasmine Bailey (4), and Amber Strange (2).

Tarleton will return to action Thursday night in Wisdom Gym when the Texans return to Lone Star Conference play against Texas A&M-Kingsville at 5:30 p.m. It will be Kid's Night at the game. All kids age 17 and under will receive free admission.
