Texans fall in women’s basketball action at Angelo State

SAN ANGELO – Second-half woes hurt Tarleton in Thursday's road loss at Angelo State as the Texans fell 60-57.

Tarleton came out on fire as the Texans got on the board with a quick triple from Kylie Collins to kickstart a 7-0 run in the opening 2:30. Tarleton maintained the lead and took a 16-13 edge into the second quarter.

The Texans opened the second frame on a 12-6 run to extend to their lead to a game-high nine points with 2:54 left in the opening half. Callie Boyles, who scored seven of her nine points in the first half, capped off the final scoring run that helped Tarleton take a 28-23 lead into the break.

Out of the break, Tarleton struggled on both ends of the court as the Texans shot just .353 from the floor and .286 from downtown in the final two quarters. Tarleton's woes from beyond the arc also included an 0-4 third quarter. Tarleton was also 3-7 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Angelo State shot .500 from the field, including .800 in the fourth quarter, and 8-9 for the half at the charity stripe.

Tarleton cut the deficit to one possession in the final minute when Alexa Hoy stole a pass at the top of the key and converted it on the offensive end. The Texans forced a turnover on the ensuing Rambelle possession, but couldn't take advantage. The Rambelles would go on to dribble out the clock.

Mackenzie Hailey and Hoy combined to lead the team with 30 points. Hailey scored 13 on 6-15 shooting with seven rebounds while Hoy scored 14 points with three rebounds and four steals. Boyles added nine points off the bench.

Kaitlyn Guillory (7), Lucy Benson (4), Kandyn Faurie (4), and Kylie Collins (3) rounded out the scoring. Benson led the team with nine rebounds.

Tarleton will travel to Lubbock next Saturday, Dec. 14 for a showdown with No. 2 Lubbock Christian at 5:30 p.m.
