ABILENE – Tarleton rebounded from a late-night loss to Abilene Christian yesterday to defeat NCAA Division I foe, Oral Roberts, 4-1 at the Eager Tennis Complex Friday morning.
"The girls did a great job of coming out today and bouncing back from yesterday's match," said head coach
Lance Drake. "Oral Roberts put up a good fight but our girls stepped up in the important points and played well. We are excited to get back to Stephenville and get ready for our first home match of the year."
Tarleton got the day started with a clean sweep of doubles action to lock up the first point of the afternoon.
Alicia Barbaroux and
Sherine Salem wasted no time in claiming the top-seeded doubles show with a 6-1 win.
Shelby Fillingame and
Nathalie Ulander paired up for the first time this season and won the No. 3 match 6-2 while
Neetika Sud and
Faustine Palatte joined together in the No. 2 match and edged out a 7-6 win.
In singles play, Salem picked up the first win with a 6-3, 6-0 victory in the No. 3 match while Barbaroux, the No. 47-ranked singles player in the nation by ITA, handled the top-seeded match 7-6, 6-2.
After Oral Roberts picked up its only point of the afternoon with a win in the No. 2 match, Ulander finished off the Tarleton victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 5 match. With four points already secured, the remaining two matches stopped.
