THE LAST TIME OUT
Tarleton women's basketball led from start to finish en route to an 84-55 road win over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday in the Steinke Center. The 84 points are the most the TexAnns have scored in an LSC game this season and the 29-point win is the second largest against Division II opponent this year (38 vs. Texas Woman's on Jan. 10). The trio of
Kaylee Allen (25),
Mackenzie Hailey (21), and
McKinley Bostad (12) combined to outscore all of Texas A&M-Kingsville (58-55).
JANUARY STEPHENVILLE APARTMENTS STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE MONTH
Kaylee Allen led Tarleton to five victories in eight games during the month of January and averaged 13.3 points per game on 36-percent shooting from the floor and three-point land. The senior from Cincinnati totaled 28 rebounds to go along with 17 assists, 13 steals and six blocks over those eight games. Her biggest performance of the month came in a 24-point scoring effort on the road at West Texas A&M to help the TexAnns knock off the then-No. 8 Lady Buffs in Canyon.
INSIDE THE SERIES: MSU TEXAS
Tarleton and MSU Texas have a rich history of women's basketball, which dates all the way back to 1978 and covers 70 games. The Mustangs hold a 37-33 all-time edge in the series, however, Tarleton holds a 25-23 edge since the TexAnns joined the NCAA in 1994. Despite MSU Texas claiming six of nine meetings between 2013-16, Tarleton has dominated the series since 2005 winning 22 of the last 29 meetings over that span.
INSIDE THE SERIES: CAMERON
Tarleton and Cameron began their women's basketball history in the 1993-94 season and the Aggies hold a slim 18-16 edge in the 34 all-time games played. The TexAnns and Aggies twice met during the spring semester of Tarleton's final NAIA season and have been NCAA rivals since. Tarleton is 8-8 all-time in Stephenville. Cameron has won nine of the last 12 since 2013.
